Its drizzling for the second day in a row here in austin and dear lord it stinks like ....

it smells like the sky is one big giant exhaust system and its blowing millions of cars worth of exhaust right in your face

It's the rain hitting the pavement and ground that smells. The ground hasn't been "washed" in so long, imagine the crap that's sitting there waiting to come alive again when water hits it. It always smells like a garbage dumpster to me when it first rains after a long dry spell.

And you begin to really get a vibe for that principle when you're in New Orleans (where I'll be next week) and just enough rain falls on Bourbon St to bring alive the smells of party nights past. Toss in the humidity after the rain and I wonder why I keep going back.

Rain is not some super clean spring water like the that comes out of our faucets here in Bexar county. All kinda of munk get's picked up in big storms. This is why if you go out in texas .. anywhere.. dig a big hole and fill it with water.. say 10,000 gallons or more... in about a year or 2 fish till appear... from teh storms dropping egs or baby fish.
