They asked him what the difference was in the Heat getting to the basket and he said "obviously the effort was there."

This was the highest scoring game by "the big three" so far in any playoffs.

This series really lives or dies on the effort of the Miami Heat and very little else. You can analyze every X and O but it's the truth and the Spurs know it. Danny Green said it after the last game about Lebron too "Well, he stopped himself." The Spurs best players are old and their young players outside of Kawhi lack athleticism to challenge Wade/James going to the basket. There is no lineup that can stop the Heat from taking tons of 70%+ 5 ft. or less shots except for flat out laziness on the Heats part.

Effort? If you're not giving 120% effort in the NBA Finals you don't deserve to wear a jersey.

Game 1: Spurs played avg but no turnovers, Heat played well at the start, bad at the ending, Spurs won.
Game 2: Spurs played bad, Heat played well at the end, Heat won.
Game 3: Spurs played well, Heat played bad, Spurs won.
Game 4: Spurs played bad, Heat played well, Heat won.

There hasn't been a game when both spurs and heat played well. So you cant really say the series depends on whether one side played well or not. To say this is to say both sides played well and one side won in a blowout.

Meh, It's giving them different looks and sagging off, packing the paint on Lebron and letting him shoot that jumper, it won't fall all the time. I'm comfortable with him getting 26 to 28 points a game, tonight it was D Wade that showed up that made it a fight. He got to the foul line early and he got confident and we played off him and let him take shots. Adjustments will be to pressure him and make him to take contested jumpers, no easy shots in the paint. Stay with shooters too.

Ultimately the series will come down to, "will DWade show up like that for the next 3 games?" "will chris bosh decide to show up too?" Who knows, but we have to influence it with stellar defense, we played tired tonight. Didn't help either that we were missing gimmies at the front of the rim. No rebounding whatsoever and we had no momentum, Tiago Splitters multiple ups negated several runs that we had. Shorter leash on Manu, can't have him running point if he's going to be predictable as . Tony needs more minutes or else we're going home in 6. 2 days for Pop to figure it out, we'll adjust and win game 5.

It's a must win for each opposing team after a loss. Whoever has the energy looks like the victor.

I am sick and tired of this effort bull

They intimated it was effort after game 2

And the Heat, pretty much all they said after game 3 was that their effort sucked

Now spurs playing the effort card again????

What a load of crap. We had 9 freaking days off, and we can't gather effort for a 4th game in 8 days? Lame.

Duncan's play said it all; he looked nonexistent (don't be fooled by the points, they're misleading) & he gave up a few offensive rebounds to Chris Bosh of all people. I love Timmy, but this constant, inconsistent effort displayed by him in these finals is disturbing...you'd never see a lack of effort from Kobe!

Can't stand when people blame effort. Pretty sure Manu was out there busting ass even if his performance was horrendous. Parker played himself to exhaustion. Duncan was fighting like for position, though his rebounding was garbage tonight. Miami was just focused like tonight. Like Walton used to always say, never mistake effort for achievement.

It was shooting. The Heat shot the ball very well. The Spurs couldn't get the open looks and were ragged all night and looked lost on offense as Pop toyed with the rotations.

Not sure if he's referring to the Heat putting more effort tonight, or the spurs lacking effort, or a combination of both, but regardless to me it's pathetic to think of anyone who wouldn't put all of their effort forth in a Finals game.

This isn't the 1990's anymore. Teams don't come out and play their hearts out every game even in the playoffs. It's sad but it's true. The Heat talent/athleticism is superior to everyone in the league all things being equal (health wise). I think that's pretty much a given until an offseason sees another super team form (that doesn't rely on 38 year old Steven Nash lol).

Shooting the ball successfully is DIRECTLY related to effort+athleticism, and people who don't get that don't get basketball. When guys are lazy and shoot 15-20 foot J's all night they are shooting 35-45% shots AT BEST. When you get to the rim and <5 ft. shots they are 75-85% shots. Go check out the stat analysis sites and you'll get that pretty clearly. Did you see how many blocks the Heat got at the rim? The Heat had 7 blocks on high percentage shots and scored the majority of their points on layups and <5 ft. shots.

You can dog Spo as much as you want but he has molded this team to take advantage of basketball percentages more than any other team in the league and they have the athleticism/talent to fully take advantage of that. The two most important shots in basketball are the < 5 ft. shot and the open corner 3. No one does those two things better than the Heat. When the Heat lose, they lose because they stop attacking the rim. Really that's the truth for every team the Heat just have the biggest advantage.

Even you guys have the same deal! Parker/Manu break the defense down headed to the rim and pass for an easy inside bucket to Duncan OR you kick it out for a high percentage, wide open, stationary 3 preferably from the corner. Green is a fantastic stationary 3 point shooter and Neal is just a good shooter period. Too bad he's so small/low defensive basketball IQ or he'd be a nightmare at all times.

The two teams really aren't that different. The big difference is Lebron/Wade are in their prime/closer to their prime respectively than Parker and especially Ginobli. The 3 point shooters are arguably a wash, and Duncan's age makes the big man game a wash with Bosh/Anderson/Haslem.

You know what I like most about the Spurs? The Spurs effort is way more consistent. Yes they have bad games but the two guys their O relies on have been partially hurt or both hurt now. Bummer but true.

Miami can win this series at will. I Don't see any reason why Wade and Lebron can replicate what they did tonight in the next game. Im surprised they didn't do it earlier.

Kobe was 6-24 in a game 7 before.... He also shot below 39% in a few finals! He would just shoot you out of a game or get bailed out as he did in that game 7.

I lost count of how many lay ups Wade and co scored over Duncan tonight. Love Timmy but his #'s don't tell the story. He didn't play well on either end.

Hate to say it, but that appears to be correct. After all the chatter is done, there's only one variable -- how hard is Miami playing.

Like Walton used to always say, never mistake effort for achievement.
Or like Wooden used to say, never confuse activity with achievement.

I started a thread that basically said the same thing. I said I fell into the trap believing we had a chance to beat Miami but I feel they are just playing with us now. They look bored and when they feel the slightest bit of pressure they turn it on like in game 2 and game 4.

Our big3 wasn't playing well and it seems they don't have fuel left in the tank. Neal and Green are not going to score 20 every game. That's our problem. I don't care about them.
