    1. London Calling

London calling to the faraway towns
Now war is declared, and battle come down
    London calling to the underworld
Come out of the cupboard, you boys and girls....haha!
London calling, now don't look to us
Phoney Beatlemania has bitten the dust....huh?
London calling, see we ain't got no swing'
Cept for the ring of that truncheon thing...what?
    [Chorus 1:]
The ice age is coming, the sun's zooming in....hahaha!
Meltdown expected, the wheat tastes so thin
Engines stop running, but I have no fear'
Cause London is drowning, and I live by the river
London calling to the imitation zone...huh?
Forget it, brother, you can go it alone
London calling to the zombies of death
Quit holding out, and draw another breath
London calling, and I don't wanna shout
But while we were talking, I saw you nodding out...hahahaha!!!!!!
London calling, see we ain't got no Highs
Except for that one with the yellowy eyes
    [Chorus 2: x2]
The ice age is coming, the sun's zooming in
Engines stop running, the wheat tastes so thin
A nuclear error, but I have no fear'
Cause London is drowning, and I live by the river...huh?
    Now get this
London calling, yes, I was there, too
An' you know what they said? Well, some of it was true!
London calling at the top of the dial
After all this, won't you give me a smile?
    London calling
I never felt so much alike [fading] alike alike alike

What am I missing there? I could do better than that.

So what is actually going on there?

    Ya think?

I was poking fun at it.

    Here are some lyrics

    "Ol' 55"

Well my time went so quickly, I went lickety-splickly out to my old '55
As I drove away slowly, feeling so holy, God knows, I was feeling alive.

Now the sun's coming up, I'm riding with Lady Luck, freeway cars and trucks,
Stars beginning to fade, and I lead the parade
    Just a-wishing I'd stayed a little longer,
Oh, Lord, let me tell you that the feeling's getting stronger.

And it's six in the morning, gave me no warning; I had to be on my way.
Well there's trucks all a-passing me, and the lights are all flashing,
I'm on my way home from your place.

And now the sun's coming up, I'm riding with Lady Luck, freeway cars and trucks,
Stars beginning to fade, and I lead the parade
    Just a-wishing I'd stayed a little longer,
Oh, Lord, let me tell you that the feeling's getting stronger.

And my time went so quickly, I went lickety-splickly out to my old '55
As I pulled away slowly, feeling so holy, God knows, I was feeling alive.

Now the sun's coming up, I'm riding with Lady Luck,
Freeway cars and trucks, freeway cars and trucks, freeway cars and trucks...

I always look for the mood when deciding on what to listen to. What would I be doing to where The Clash would fit? Don't ease any pains, can't dance to it, can't to it, won't work in a kicker bar, far better stuff to drive by.....hmmmmmmm? I can't imagine you're 45 and humming a song of theirs.

    I give, what's the attraction?

This is music and nobody here has heard of the guy.

You can dance to The Clash, even though that's a re ed reason to like a band's music. You have got to be the tiest "music historian" ever.

You did not need to make another thread, but we all know that you are so starved for attention that you just can't help yourself.

So it sucks cause you can't interpret the lyrics?. There is an entire world outside of California, and people in other countries live lives that are different than yours.

Yea. If he likes the sound, the musicians are clearly very talented. If he understands the lyrics, it is good music; that's why Motley Crue is on his list in that other thread instead of the Clash-----because the lyrics to "Girls, Girls, Girls" are understandable to him and require obvious talent to write.

tom waits the only tom waits songs I've ever listened to are those he co-produced with my goddess Scarlett, but I gotta admit that dude's 3 times the singer my goddess is. the best 2 songs in the whole album of "anywhere I lay my head" are "anywhere I lay my head" (the le song) and "falling down", both songs with tom waits cover. "no one knows I'm gone" is also one of the better songs of that album, in the same tier with "i don't wanna grow up" and "i wish i was in new orleans". "before my time" is also a good song but not in the "anywhere i lay my head" album

Yes, write it, record it and sell five million copies.

Then you can start a thread about that.

It's not about interpretting the lyrics, it's that the lyrics suck.

I know tons of people who think The Clash/punk sucks.

So Hank Williams, The Stones, Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson, The Doors,....suck?

My opinions are shared by those who really understand music.

Want me to talk you to school? I don't care about punk, it sucks.

    Totally right about The Clash.

    I called London
    a war was going on
    didn't get an answer
    nobody by a phone

    So I wrote a letter
    sent it by mail
    people dyin' in London
    must be

    London calling
    from across the sea
    bombs exploding
    London my destiny

    guitar solo

    I'm on a plane
    touchdown soon
    going to be in London
    before noon

    London calling
    a war going on

    I got off the plane
    saw the smoke
    London is burning
    I'm about to choke

Flames as high as the sky
    as a lonely tear
    falls from my eye

    London is burning
    a war going on

    guitar solo

    I heard my baby
    call my name
    just before a bomb exploded
    and she became a flame

    London is calling
    London my destiny
    bombs exploding
    London is history

Why does punk rock suck so bad ?

I think punk rock is stupid , soulless music , god-awful lyrics , it sucks musically and all punk rock bands sound exactly the same , same chords , vocals , poorly written songs and lyrics are even worse (with very few exceptions ) , people like punk because they think it's fun and easy to play , not because it sounds good.

    101 reasons why punk sucks

Punk annoys me. Musically I find it boring and unsubtle, but I also hate the elevated sense of cultural hegemony that it's arisen to. Old punks are starting to become part of the political and media establishment in just the same way as the Baby Boomers have been, and I find their lording it over of popular culture really ing annoying. Has any musical movement had as many books written about it, aggrandising it as some kind of revolutionary force, as punk? For all its revolution punk strikes me as the most capitalist of genres these days, its supposed Situationist roots now completely and utterly lost. I was born in 1979 and punk has never been anything to me other than a distasteful product.

    Punk Sucks

Yes, you read that correctly, punks suck horribly. They smell bad, their music is terrible, and most are borderline re ed. You could count the number of good punk albums on one hand, assuming of course that hand had been blown off and only a stump remained. Fortunately, no true punk would give a what some idiot on the internet wrote about him, which brings me to the meat of my article.Punk was a movement in the 70's and 80's that, much like most other styles of music, eventually turned into a hilariously bad parody of itself. There are two distinctive types of "punk" when using the word in this context, that of punk music and that of punk ethos. Punk music is the simplest to explain. Punk songs tended to be very short, barely over a minute, and consisted mainly of power chords, incoherent screaming, and sloppy drumming.

    In defense of The Clash

The members of the Clash were not world-class musicians by any means, but the racket they made was undeniable — the pure, visceral energy and the anger and the commitment. They were raw in every sense, and they were not ashamed that they were about much more than playing with precision and making sure the guitars were in tune. This wasn't just entertainment. It was a life-and-death thing. They made it possible for us to take our band seriously. I don't think that we would have gone on to become the band we are if it wasn't for that concert and that band. There it was. They showed us what you needed. And it was all about heart.

I need some talent involved, I guess that's my problem with The Clash.

My punk playing buddy said almost that same thing about them..."simple but they are convincing". It's just that there are just so many better sounds out there.
