Interesting. What paper?
I guess the spurs heard a couple of you crying so they went ahead and added Sergei to the team!!!!At least there is somebody to follow. This is according to the paper today.
I saw it in a blurb in this morning's E-N as well...I don't see it online...
Well, good. The Spurs should have a better idea of what they have in him. Maybe the Spurs should bring him over and give him a season playing in the NDBL.
Don't know much about the guy, but it would be interesting to check out his game. Do the spurs have the rights to him? What type of player is he?
The same blurb mentioned that Monty Williams will be coaching the summer league team...
Any news on where Sanikidze is? He isn't playing for his under 20 national team.
the spurs have his right. he played on the bench of a top4 russian top 10 europe team last season.
his status for next season is unclear so he could reaaly possibly come to SA with the new NBDL rule. he is 23
Sergei Karaulov was the #58 selection in the 2004 NBA Draft by the San Antonio Spurs. He plays center and is from the Ukraine.
Sanikidze is not playing for national team and should not play anymore for Dijon next year.
i am curious of where he will end up. maybee NBDL too.
JUUOT do you know if he opted not to play for the national team or was he not selected?
I wonder who urged the Spurs to go with Sergei Karaulov. Sam Presti? Danny? Lance? RC? or maybe Mel Kiper?![]()
no i have no idea for sanikidze. the first logical reason other than not selected. would be he did not want to hurt cause negotiating an important contract. either italian team or spurs
I thought you were a regular?
I found some stats at http://www.tsn.ca/nba/teams/player_b...105&hubName=SA.
It looks like he played for Sakha-Jakutia (Russian league) in 2002-03 and 2003-04, but I couldn't find any stats for 2004-05.
Anybody know he did this past season?
http://www.basket.ru/old_site/Team.asp?id=1377&l=2
this were serguei played last season
Hmmm...where is confirmation that Karaulov has been added?
He's not on the Spurs' summer league roster posted on their site, but that is dated July 7th.
Looks like he was playing nothing but the occasional garbage time. Maybe the Spurs figured he wasn't going to be developed there so they'll use the NBDL to work with him or try to showcase him a little in hopes that another European team will pick him up and work with him.
He played on the B squad of his Russian team, so he was left of the roster of events like the FIBA tournament, though he was never going to steal time from a guy like Wolkowyski.
Don't get your hopes up.

Karaulov is the Spurs' scouting deparment heat check. If they hit on this one, the NBA should just fold.
No one knows anything about this guy.
Yeah, a NBA ready 7 footer nabbed with the 58th pick last year would be pretty damn good.
Uzbekistan.
Karaulov is the Spurs' scouting deparment heat checkThat's a wicked metaphor, but appropriate.
