What was pops strategy for game 7? All series long, we give Lebron 2-3 feet and play great defense on him.. game 7, pop leaves lebron WIDE OPEN all game long.. why change things?

i get the feeling pop threw game 7 for "basketball reasons"

^Rather a 2 than a 3. Pop ed up. Be nice if he would own up to it. Also resting starters at the start of the 3rd and giving up a 10 point lead. Lets not forget benching one of the greatest rebounders in the history of the game.

When he's on the drive, 2s turn into and1s. I'd rather he hoist 3s.

If we rebounded the ball in the last minutes of both game 6 and 7 we'd be praising pop's strategy right about now.

that 3rd-4th quarter bridge where the bench came and Pop desperately stuck to them too long
he had Diaw guarding Lebron about 10 feet back and Lebron would just get a full head of steam everytime and blow right by him

They sagged off way way to far in game 7. The defenders weren't even in the same area code and LeBron was just shooting open jumpers like it was practice. I understand sagging off him was the strategy but they took it to the extreme later in the series.

It did look peculiar. I remember yelling at the TV more than a few times because he was simply not being defended. So it goes.

They sagged off him 5ft all series and he shot 42% through 6 games. No point in changing that

The worst defense is to give a good player consistent looks.

yes, however, in game seven he was nailing them. So yes the strategy worked to perfection up until game seven. If he's hitting in game seven, you gotta go out and guard him. Its...game...freaking...seven! There is no game 8 for him to regress to normal shooting.

This is why Pop is criticized about in game adjustments. He has a plan going in, it may be a great plan, and it probably works most times. But if its not working, you gotta do something different, which most times he refuses to do.

I agree with this. I also agree with the OP. Seemed like we sagged even more off of LBJ in Game 7 than we did the rest of the series. He was allowed to dribble in rhythm and step into a shot. It was a bit odd and it didn't work out the way we wanted it to.

I agree. It seemed like Pop stopped adjusting after game 5. The irony is it's usually that final adjustment that wins you the series.
