Is it? You can be adopted or born into a family with no choice. Friends are a choice. I think choosing to bring someone into your life is a solid indication more so then having them forced upon you. Also, just because you have some family member that is of another race does not mean you can't be racist.

saying you have a black friend, when friend can mean anything, is less of a bond than saying i have family I love dearly. I say this because I have sexual family members that I love dearly who I would leave my kids with any day of the week, but i oppose government sponsored gay marriage.

Everyone is a racist. Some people are the casual type in which they just stereotype. Then you have the type of racists that are hardcore and willingly to kill any humans that are not the same skin color as them.
