Greg Abbott, Texas AG, Acknowledges GOP Redistricting Decisions Made 'At The Expense Of The Democrats'

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott (R) explicitly referenced Texas Republicans' gerrymandering tactics in a court brief earlier this month, acknowledging that districts were redrawn in 2011 to minimize the clout of Democratic voters.

In July, Attorney General Eric Holder filed a lawsuit, arguing that the state should be required to undergo some form of preclearance with districting plans. A month before, the United States Supreme Court had struck down key provisions of the Voting Rights Act, meaning that the Texas redistricting plan was no longer subject to federal preclearance requirements.

In his lawsuit, Holder called on a judge to review the districting proposal, and cited "evidence of intentional racial discrimination that was presented" in another lawsuit, Texas v. Holder in 2012. The 2012 ruling denied the state preclearance to enact a potential voter identification law, and Holder used the suit as a springboard for suggesting that similar federal approval would again be necessary.

In response to the most recent case, Abbott denied that redistricting practices were racially motivated, but revealed that political interests were very much at work.

It's all about, in Repug states only, assuming the integrity of democracy and stopping well-proven, pervasive, election-throwing voter fraud.

    "Like Democrats don't gerrymander?"

There are examples of (Repug) states where Dems won the House vote total but got less seats the Repugs. Dems had 1.1 M more House votes than Repugs but still came out 33 seats short in the House.

Do you haves examples where the Repugs won the vote total but got less seats than Dems?

Anyone remember the day when the courts used to fix problems like this? And....what does this say about Abbott's integrity should he runs for Governa?

Is it ok for the Governa to break state law or not?

Gerrymandering is a spoil of victory. Just in some states where they have gone way over the top, they now have to pay for the sins of prior gerrymandering attempts. Kinda like Texas.

You can gerrymander in a semi legal way like most states do, and then in other states, like Texas, they go above and beyond and thats why all these ing challenges come up and why courts make the legislature go back and fix it.

    ing morons.

Some states have moved redistricting from politicians to commissions created in various ways, which should tamper, if not eliminate, redistricting as an anti-democratic, bad faith political weapon

    http://www.ncsl.org/legislatures-ele...ons-table.aspx

Repugs will or are now trying to redistrict Wendy Evans out of state politics.
