The US soldier who was sentenced as Bradley Manning on Wednesday plans to undergo hormone therapy and has asked to be recognised as a woman.
In a statement on Thursday Manning said she would like to be known as Chelsea E Manning and be referred to by female pronouns.
"As I transition into this next phase of my life, I want everyone to know the real me," she wrote.
"I am Chelsea Manning. I am a female. Given the way that I feel, and have felt since childhood, I want to begin hormone therapy as soon as possible. I hope that you will support me in this transition."

absolutely brilliant move on his part. he knows he'll get got while in prison because they'll say he's a traitor. if he's a girl then they'll put him in a women's prison.

Was just listening to BBC. They were discussing this. They found now humor in it. They did, however, come to the unanimous conclusion that, of course, that the United State's government ought to pay for the gender change procedure. Really used to like BBC world news.

Why does the government have to pay for this guy to pretend to be a woman? Will he die if he isn't allowed to have breasts and chop off his ? Is swapping genders vital to his health? Will his heart stop beating? Some rich liberal and gay organization should foot the bill for this, not Uncle Sam.
im telling you...the dude is going transgender so he'll serve out his sentence in a women's facility. something must have really ed him up in the detention camp.

I would normally say too much psychological torture ed up his brain, which it probably did. But IMO he always was a fruitcake, he looks like it. not that there's anything wrong with that. More power to him and wish that dear soul best of luck.
oh and I think he's sentenced to Military Prison which besides the torture, is not nearly as bad as living in Federal prison next to Bubba and Popeye
In other words I'd pick daily water boarding and force feeding over daily assraping from prison monkeymen
Apparently he was like that before he leaked the docs, hence the 35yr (possibly out in 7) sentence
Whatever the case, he's gonna loooooooove prison. Probably won't even be punishment for a soap dropper like him
I think they have already ruled he cant' go to a womens facility no matter what.
