Always cracked me up on live shows where the cast couldn't keep it together. Here's a couple that still make me laugh...
There were tons on Carol Burnett...

Jimmy Fallon. I'll give him his due for how well he's done with Late Night, but SNL Fallon was useless precisely for the reasons they got on tape. And that list doesn't have my personal favorite, SNL or otherwise. Phil Hartman, who pretty much never cracked, broke down laughing during a Tarzan, Tonto, Frankenstein skit with Lovitz and Nealon.
...I'm not about to debate the greatness of Phil Hartman.
I don't think Fallon was in his element as a cast member of SNL. But as a host or someone that needs to command a stage by himself, he's pretty talented.
Justin Timberlake could never keep it together around Fallon.
The old carol burnetts with Conway and Korman were awesome. Saw Tim and Harvey live in SA many years ago and they had some incredibly funny stories about what went on on those shows
I think you're spot on about Fallon. In an element like that where his primary role is to actually form a direct connection with the audience then being able to laugh honestly at himself is great.
Always loved Fallon. I never minded him laughing on SNL. It's good for that show to actually have humor among the cast.
