Step 2 of my hypothetical GM career.
Wow... all of these free agent signings but we still haven't addressed our biggest (no pun intended) need -- a third big off the bench or when Tiago decides he's got some sand (down there). He could spot Duncan and Tiago a few minutes every night, and with Duncan being a year older, Pop will need to rest him even more without having a hole in the paint.
Webber desperately wants to play for a contender and get that much elusive first ring. He's not even that old. Does Kevin Willis ring a bell? He was instrumental during our 2003 championship run, in which he backed up Robinson and Duncan and provided a great lift off the bench. That's the role I envision Webber filling. Willis actually went out to play 3 more seasons after his stint with us! Webber is far from done, and we could use him.
I would be all in if we could somehow woo Webber out of retirement because I know he can still play. He could be a good locker room influence to a guy like Leonard or Joseph and maybe he could groom Thomas along the way. Look, I'm not asking him to come in and play 25+ mins for us on a nightly basis. He's pretty much done as a 27 ppg bruiser down low. I'm thinking maybe 10-15mins a night, crashing the boards and playing some tough defense and just battling down low with the other teams' bigs.
Step 2 of my hypothetical GM career.
I'd much rather bring the Admiral out of retirement for that kind of role.
David's 48... and has been out of the league since 2003.
Webber's 40... and is only 4 years removed.
dont we have baynes, diaw and that pendegrass guy?
Baynes never saw the floor, and Diaw is a point-guard/sf hybrid. We need a bruiser like Jordan had in Charles Oakley or Ewing had in Larry Johnson. We lost Stephen Jackson and Bruce Bowen -- the toughness we needed to get past teams like Dallas, Phoenix, and Detroit.
Baynes kicked Dwight Howard's ass in the playoffs.
Did your sources report this to you?
Mute yourself, tbh.
October 29 can't come soon enough
No, Webber is completely done and I would hesitate to pick him for a blacktop game if there were other guys his height available who were halfway decent.
I also wonder OP, if you've really been watching the Spurs much if you think our biggest need is a 5th big (3rd bench guy), and not a 3rd playmaker (aka a real backup PG), which we do not have. A 5th big would be nice, but that's mostly for insurance purposes. Basically Blair's role. Barely getting any minutes at all and almost never playing in the postseason.
He was pretty done the last time he played with GSW, and that was 5 or 6 years ago. I don't see any reason how you could think he still has a little something in the tank.
you know the offseason is getting to people when a in chris webber thread is made
yikes

Lazy troll is lazy. Trolls were so much more effective back when the Spurs/Mavs rivalry was at it height. Pretending to be a Spur fan and making some thread like "hey gaiz! lets go get reggie miller!" is weak, weak sauce.
Why settle for Webber? Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has been trying for years to get back in the league; this could be his chance.
hypothetically...could we finally implement the 1000 posts bar for thread starters???
this re obviously found a list of retired players on the internet and will work through it. next idea will be bring back Shaq. book it.
Is this a post padding thread? If so - I'm in!
