the House Natural Resources Committee on a bill that would force a fire sale of 3.3 million acres of public lands.

The Disposal of Excess Federal Lands Act of 2013 (H.R. 2657) from Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) would mandate that public lands Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, and Wyoming to be sold off to the highest bidder as a way of reducing the deficit. The areas to be sold are based on an outdated report from 1997, although the bill directs the Secretary of the Interior to “update” that report.

However, evidence shows not only that voters oppose selling off public lands, but that they are incredibly important economically.

while national parks are closed to the public, they remain open to oil and gas drilling.

aka, "disaster capitalism" as executed by Randian, predatory Repugs.

GOP Budget Calls For Fire Sale Of Public Lands While Preserving $40 Billion In Tax Breaks To Big Oil

Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-FL) told a town hall audience that “we don’t need more national parks in this country, we need to actually sell off some of our national parks.”

While the Republican budget calls for selling public lands with unclear consequences, it also preserves a decade’s worth of tax breaks to Big Oil companies, which total approximately $40 billion.

Repug "governance" is all and only about screwing the 99% and the environment to enrich the 1% and United Corporations of America.

Repugs = Dems? NO ING WAY

I know most of Oregon is federal land, and it doesn't need to be. If it has an owner other than the state or federal government, it can collect property taxes.

You lib s want more taxes, don't you?

hardly enough to compensate for wealth extraction the owners charge citizens to access those lands. You don't really think the Repugs are privatizing to increase taxes? they've SWORN NEVER to raise taxes. It's all about selling America's heritage to capitalists who will in turn deny access or charge high fees for access.

My God man. Just how daft are you?

It isn't raising tax rates, it's increasing tax payer.

Lib s want to raise tax rates.

Conservatives want to increase the number of tax payers.

Why is that so hard to comprehend?

Dems, progressives want to raise taxes on the seriously undertaxed wealthy and corps

Repugs as want to cut taxes on the wealthy and corps while raising taxes on the 99%, esp the 47%.

Selling public lands will deny access to those lands and/or charge extremely high fees, as well as escaping from federal regs protecting those lands from corporate destruction.
