Seriously, what the ?

Came to work this morning and for some reason my docs/calendar/other icons are gone from my gmail taskbar.

Started reading and it looks like a recent update - did this happen to anyone else?

This is seriously bull . How is this more convenient? why not at least give me the option to put it back the way it was?
