Personally, I don't see it happening--or rather--can't fathom it...but is anyone here willing to go out on that ledge?

I see 4 definite W's there, with possible losses to the Hawks and Cards. What an unforgettable catastrophe this would be if they somehow choked their way out of the postseason. SB losers curse is strong indeed.

If they draft a QB early then they're essentially announcing that they've given up on Kaepernick (and made the wrong choice). Their window is rapidly closing. The 49ers vets will become pricey once they hit FA over the next couple years. By 2015 Justin Smith will develop CTE and Aldon Smith will be incarcerated for vehicular manslaughter. I can't see the rest of the core being patient for another young QB to develop.

No team with a black quarterback will ever do anything.

I don't see it as an unforgettable catastrophe. That's being a bit overboard. It would suck but like you said, the SB curse, whether real or not, seems to rear its ugly head. The team is in a weird place, I think it could make a strong push, but it just could as likely pack it in. A lot is hinging on Kaepernick, if he is able to play better and get into a zone, then Niners could make some noise. But Kapernick has been having a very underwhelming season, so who knows.

The thing that concerns me the most is to evaluate Kap and not overpay him. I don't know if we should draft a QB instead, unless it's a can't miss opportunity. Everyone wants an elite QB but not enough supply to meet demand imo. As long as we don't overpay Kap I'll be cool.

Now if Alex Smith goes on to win a SB in the foreseeable future, then yes, that would cause some meltdown in Niner Nation.

Wouldn't shock me, but if they do it'll be because the Giants end up getting the 6th seed. If that happens then NFC.

I'd be fine with either at this point tbh, as long as it means McCoy gets a shot if Kraep keeps sucking.

I think the Niners will make the playoffs, but not make much of a run. I could see them beating the NFC East winner, but I doubt they win at Carolina/New Orleans/Seattle in the Divisional Round.

I think the hype was too fast for CK and the 49ers have been without key players for all of the season. I think they make the playoffs and could beat the NFC East and NFC South winner if they were to face. Remember: They lost to the Saints and Panthers by a total of 4 pts and could've won either one. Not much separation between those three teams. It will take a concerted effort of running the ball and get back to smashmouth defense for that to happen. They have the Hawks @ home and the Cards in Phoenix--those two are critical for obvious reasons.

I would love to see them miss the playoffs. I don't hate Kaep--but like TGM said he was anointed too early. His mechanics are garbage, and the ball looks like it's 25 lbs when he throws it. Like I said before, it makes for a mean sinking fastball.

Watching that petulant child Jim Harbaugh miss the playoffs would be beautiful, though.

I think it depends on how real the Bears are with Josh Mac at the helm. Chi year end schedule: At Rams, At Vikings, Cowboys, At Browns, At Eagles, Packers. Cutler seems to have ligament damage in his ankle, so who knows if he'll be 100%, or be healthy enough to make a difference for the Bears. All of those games are winnable, but the Packer game is obviously a situation where they're underdogs with Rodgers being back. I need to see what these Bears do on the road in St. Louis, and then that should be a good barometer going forward. Cardinals have no shot, their schedule is brutal.
