Houston is too old, Spurs have a few more good years in them.
Horry
Barry
Bowen
Oberto
Duncan
All in their 30's--the first 3 likely at the twilight of their careers. And Ginobili, especially with the way he plays, is not getting any younger.

??? Tim's not even 30 yet, and won't be during next regular season.
the thing is , the spurs have won 3 les in 7 years, so they have been good for a long time now, eventually it will come time that they wont be. People seem to think
that when its time for Duncan to play the robinson role, manu will take over. but manu
will have declined considerably himself when that time comes. So i see the spurs as
championship contenders for probably 5-6 more years, then fall off.
UNLESS all these foreign draft picks that the spurs have been selecting come into their own around that time.
no as soon as we start to drop off we'll get a no1 overall again.![]()
Tim's 30?????????
I think we have a good 3 years left with our core group where we will be one of top 2-3 teams in the league. NBA champs are usually loaded with experienced veteran players (just look at our teams that have won the Championship). Detroit was the youngest team since 1981 to win a championship. In another 3 years, Parker hopefully becomes a deserving All-Star, Mahinmi and other Euros can start contributing, and maybe Scola will finally be here. I think after the 1999 season when we started to bring in older, less athletic players while the rest of the league got more athletic, Pop and RC have learned their lesson.
In 5 years both manu and duncan will be passed their prime but as superstar they will be un valuable to a team especially this kind of superstar without ego.
However in 5 years our third star will just hit his prime. Tony will turn 28.
plus, some beleive (i am one of them) that one of sanikidze or mahinmi will become a really good player in this league.
Then you have the player you will have developped along the years (devin type) that will turn on.
To conclude, in 5 years we will have at least one star in his prime : TONY plus one young men emerging from our farm to the allstar level ( ian will be 24 in 5 years) and spurs will suround them with the fitting role players because this is what they do best. Lesat but not last you will have the two best veteran you could have in manu and tim to chaperon them !
Duncan is going to be Duncan for another 6-7 years. As long as he is, we are in the hunt. You people are freaking out about something that is more than half a decade away!
Tim, Tony, and Manu are all under 30. Thats all that matters. They are the core. The rest are just pieces put around those three. The Spurs are in great shape. And they will be a great team for the next few years barring any major injury or something.
Only one starter over 30 at the start of next season.

What, am I on the wrong planet? Who are those people? Come on, Tim is only one year and three months older than Manu. In onctrast, how older is Drob than Tim when Tim took over? Furthermore, Tim is still in his prime. We all know big man's play time is usually longer.
Seriously, I am curious how many Spurs fans have ever thought this?
we need to go sign those young people we had in
keven wills
steve smith
terry porter
danny ferry
steve kerr
mario
Bowen will be pulling defensive karate moves from behind a walker if he has to. I think he is a few years away from loosing 1/2 a step.
not yet. right now they're too good
as long as he can kick guys i nthe head, he'll be the #1 All Defensive of my heart..
Who cares, the Spurs still kick ass.
Robert Horry could be be 50 for all I care, he'd still knock those 3's down like they were nothing. His 3 point skills will never leave him.
I say just enjoy what you got. Not many franchises have had this kind of success. It is not easy to win one much less three les. As fans this is the best of times and I expect the team to be better next year and better the year after that. Whether the amount of luck, (read no injuries) you need to make it to the top will be there, who knows. But, I am sure not going to obsess about the future and miss out on what is right in front of me.
I'll take vets over kids any time. You can't beat experience. I feel great about the Spurs core.
