TBH, Taj is the most natural fit and would solve the biggest need from the Bulls roster on our team.
With the recent news of Derrick Rose being out the entire season, I've heard from various sources around the league that the Bulls are "posed to unload all of their assets and start the rebuilding phase now". They have a couple of very valuable pieces that contending teams need (namely, Noah, Boozer, and Deng). Sources are telling me they are unwilling to part with Jimmy Butler though.
I was just wondering if there's anything that the Spurs could offer them? I think we're decently full at the center position since most teams are going to play small anyways (that's not saying that I wouldn't want Noah). I'm more interested in the prospect of making a move for either Deng and/or Boozer.
I was playing with the ESPN trade machine to see if I could get a trade to work, but it wouldn't let me (unless I included either Duncan or Parker, but both of those guys are untradeable).
I was thinking (however)...
Bulls Receive:
Cory Joseph
2014 First Round Pick
Rights to Ryan Richards
Rights to Livio Jean-Charles
Rights to Deshaun Thomas
$8 million in cash considerations
Spurs Receive:
Luol Deng
Kirk Henrich
Why the Bulls do this:
The Bulls need to stock up on draft picks and young talent. They get a couple of projects and an NBA ready point guard in Cory Joseph while Derrick Rose rehabs.
Why the Spurs do this:
The Spurs need another SF to backup Kwahi. Deng is perfect for a smaller "bigger" lineup (if that makes any sense). Henrich is a veteran with a ton of playoff experience.
TBH, Taj is the most natural fit and would solve the biggest need from the Bulls roster on our team.
I would love Deng on the team.
Deng is set to become a free agent. Do we risk trading Cory Joseph for a 1 year rental (Deng may not re-sign with us)?
nobody replaces my paty mills
Ignoring the fact that it would never happen, you would absolutely trade away CoJo for a Deng rental.
i'm no gm but surely the bulls could get more than that for deng...
Are you sure about that? We're giving them two 1st round talent, 8 mill in cash considerations, another 1st round pick, and two projects
the upshot is that NONE of these guys are on the books for any more than 2 years (including this year, allowing them a lot of flexibility)
Luol Deng is a good player. He'll command more than the Spurs are willing to pay him. He'll either stay in Chicago or end up in LA.
Kirk Heinrich would be the best pickup from that team. Deng is a worse version of Kawhi and Noah is good but I'm sure someone will overpay him.
now Kirk Heinrich would solve our PG problems easily.
mute is really quite the underrated troll.
Sources are telling me...
Do we risk trading Cory Joseph...
Rights to Ryan Richards...
$8 million in cash considerations...
Quality stuff, IMO...
8 million in cash considerations
It's not soccer son. There are rules !
inb4 teazee trade machine link..
Richards is never playing in the nba...and if he does it won't be for very long
Joseph will be a back up pg at best in his career
Thomas is a fringe nba talent who is really positionless on the defensive end...he can score though I'll give him that
Livio is a project as you said...but is still an unknown quan y (though I would rather the spurs develop him)
The way the year is going we'll probably end up picking 28-30 in this years draft...this is a deep draft but it's basically a 2nd rounder
......I understand that these guys aren't on the books and that gives the bulls some financial flexibility, however imo cap space is sort of a mirage...I would rather trade for known commodities in the league or accrue multiple future draft picks...
I think if the bulls follow that path, they set themselves up better in the long run, and will be contending again sooner rather than later
I love how people usually see deng as a kind of vet... Dude is 28 y/o he is gonna get paid and won't play off the bench. He is injury prone but he is reaching his prime...
maybe cauz he looks old
the way Thibs manages minutes, he might as well be 35
THIS.
Deng = International Intelligence but FO got nothing to offer him
I was thinking the other day how Hinrich would make a good backup.
Seriously I doubt the Spurs would be the hold-up on that trade. If you could give up Joseph for him, you'd be out of your mind not to do it. A rejuvenated Deng makes the Spurs really really dangerous. Never happen, though.
