-¿Cómo imaginás tu llegada a San Antonio?
-¿Y Jordan no?

He is all neat one with the Spurs, is a pre-agreed one, only lack to sign. In principle, it had to take shape in these days, but the NBA delayed the date of the company/signature of the free agents for the week that comes."
This gladiator, of 2,08 meters, been born for 30 years in the Rods (to about 180 kilometers of the Cordovan capital), winner of so many medals (gilded in the Olympic Games of silverplated Athens and in the World-wide one of 2002, among others), has been clarifying the delay in family, with friends and training all the mornings in the gymnasium of Ins ute, of Cordova.
- you did not want to speak of happens through fear to that one was frustrated? - I do not know, seems to me that the news hurried much. I wanted that everything was calmer.
- What suponés that is going to you to request the DT Gregg Popovich? - Defense and bounce, that is what better I do. I only want to feel useful for the equipment, and am arranged to sacrifice to me for that reason. I suppose that I will need a period adaptation, but do not believe that in the tactical thing it is complicated to me. Good, it is necessary to see what requests to me when it arrives there.
- Creés that your style fits well in the one of the Spurs? - Yes, sure it is a European style. I do not see myself in an equipment that does everything at great speed.
- How much it benefits the presence to you from Ginóbili in the establishment? - Manu is a superstar of the NBA and a great friend who can give good advice me. Both we enjoyed much playing together. I spoke with him a pair of times these days because I have many you intrigue of how he is all that. I asked to him on all the things. In the selection we did not speak of our equipment.
- How imaginás your arrival to San Antonio? - I do not want Much to think surely, but that he will be a little while very exciting. It I go to measure by my stomach ache, which it is a sensation that I have almost always before the parties, when even touches a easy rival to me, because I think: it will mirá if we lose with these! He will be something very great because from the 21 years I come waiting for this moment.
- 9 years ago no Argentinean had arrived at the NBA. Why vos you had that illusion? - Because it seems me the maximum within my profession, it means to raise the highest step.
- What happened to the 21, that you began to dream about the NBA? - Everything began with a match that we played with the selection in Brazil and said that there were recruiters of the NBA watching to us. I thought that I had chances, even invited to me to play a match in the United States. The following year they put to me in the guide of draft. They went away adding things until, in the McDonald´s of Paris, the proposal arrived from Chicago, that was frustrated by my agents, and soon the insolvent attempts with the Knicks.
- It must of have been very hard to support so many disappointments. - They were many years of suffering, to work and to sacrifice thinking to me about the NBA. Always I wanted to arrive. In a while, when I decided to go to me to Ceramic Tau, I wanted to forget to me everything and to convince to me that the NBA was not for me, but the feeling always was latent.
- arrives to You late a little? - No, for nothing. It is the destiny. If one occurs now it must be by something. I do not think how long more I will be able to play, but I feel with more desire to work than to the 20 years.
- you will already have realized of which nobody has the t-shirt number 7 in the Spurs. - Yes, already I saw, I am hoping that they ask me to request it.
- Why pensás that chose to you just now? - It must of being a sum of things. The triumphs that we had as opposed to with the selection the Dream Team, in the World-wide one and the Olympic Games, must of having heavy much, but also my yield in Europe and the experience that I was adding.
- It is certain that also Sacramento and Chicago wanted to you? - only the more or less formal thing I believe that he was the one of Memphis. Of the others I did not listen to anything. I said to him to my agent who to only warned me on the possibility of going to play the NBA if there were a serious proposal and she makes specific.
- Barcelona, Real Madrid and Unicaja offered much money by your contract. When choosing the NBA you resigned something? - I did not analyze much the accounts, but I suppose that no. If it had been an important number it would have been me in Europe.
- In spite of the great dream? - Yes, it is my race and my future.
- and of sos what equipment swells? - Of San Antonio! [ laughter ] - No, no, no, it will mirá that I go to...
- To the file? - Yes, yes, before the World-wide one you answered that question. -[Más laughter ] Good, was fan of Chicago because I liked to see play Tony Kukoc, tried to copy its movements to him. It seemed to me an interesting player.
- and Jordan no? - Era a player supreme, but very difficult to imitate.
- To play in the champion means some extra pressure? - Surely, but always I liked that type of pressure. I always want to be in equipment with ambitions.
- and what promise you did by this fulfilled dream? - I did one: I am going to go to a place, but I tell you later, dresses, by the doubts. Fabricio feels the white or black t-shirt of the Spurs in the chest, but it underwent too many frustrations to already defy the ghosts that watched nine years destroying to him a dream to a passage of being fulfilled. My summary ... Be nice I am still learning english an this article isn't easy.![]()
---------------------------
I had dream since I was 21 (to Play in NBA), for that dream I worked and did many sacrifices.
This dream was near many times, once with Bulls (it didn't work because of his agents), later with knicks, this year with Memphis; and those phantoms (or gosths should I say) came up.
He is also enjoying his first daugther who was born 20 days ago.
He's pretty exciting of wearing #7 spurs jersey.
R: What do you think POP could ask you to do?
Oberto: Rebs and defense.
R: Do you think your game fit well with SA?
Oberto: Yes, because SA plays european style.
R: How do you imagine arriving to SA?
Oberto: I dont want to thing, but I think it'll be a touching moment.
R: Isn't too late to arrive to NBA (because of his age)?
Oberto: NOt at all, it is the destiny.
R: What NBA's Team did you used to support?
Oberto: (Laughs) Good, I used to be Chicago fan... because I liked to watch Tony Kukoc, I tried to learn and made his moves.
R: 9 years ago, no Argentine were playing in NBA, Why did you have that ilusion?
Oberto: Because it is max (in sense of heaven) in my profession, it means to raise the highest level.
R: To play for the Champs is an extra pressure?
Oberto: Surely, I always liked the pressure, I always want to be in a team with ambitions.
------
we play euro style?R: Do you think your game fit well with SA?
Oberto: Yes, because SA plays european style.
In many ways, yes indeed. Lots of passing and movement. More passing less dribbling.
Thanks for the translation, SolidD and Walter.
Meaning non-ballerish.
"arriving to SA ..... I think it'll be a touching moment."
I guess for security reasons it's impossible to find when he arrives, but it would be great to give a big "bienvenido Fabri! una caliente recepción de totos fanáticos de Espuelas de San Antonio" at the airport.![]()
Looks like this thread needs a Chopper translation:
"I’ve been playing this game for many grueling years, and this is the freaking payoff dude! I am the amazing, the magnificent, THE Fabricio Oberto. I’m finally in the show man! Wearing number 7 because I’m one lucky bas .”
- you did not want to speak of happens through fear to that one was frustrated? What the did you just ask me you googly duck?!
- What suponés that is going to you to request the DT Gregg Popovich? I’m going to guess here that you’re asking what Pop is going to ask me to do. Umm, let’s see. I’m 7 feet tall and 270 pounds. I guess I’m going to run the damn point.
- Creés that your style fits well in the one of the Spurs? Yes, I’m a big slow bas so I’ll hope and pray we play a lot of half court ball. But I’m a winner, and I understand that in the U.S. of freaking A winners wear silver and black.
- How much it benefits the presence to you from Ginóbili in the establishment? Manu is a freaking superstar of the NBA and a great friend who can give good advice to me. Now the Spurs will be the only team in the NBA that has two gold medalists from the most recent olympics. Every other team can suck my hairy Argentinian nutsack.
- How imaginás your arrival to San Antonio? I’ll be pumped man! I’ve been waiting 21 years for this! I’m gonna get off the plane, head to the riverwalk and get tanked at some stream-side bar! I’m in the show! I’m in the show!!!
- 9 years ago no Argentinean had arrived at the NBA. Why vos you had that illusion? – Well now there are several of us playing in the league. 60 years ago there were no black people in the league either. Want to waste some time talking about that? Try and keep up ok?
- What happened to the 21, that you began to dream about the NBA? Who wouldn’t want to play in the NBA? The game, the compe ion, the chicks, the MickeyD’s.
- It must of have been very hard to support so many disappointments. I’m disappointed you’re still here asking me questions, you dumb mofo.
- arrives to You late a little? You calling me old??
- you will already have realized of which nobody has the t-shirt number 7 in the Spurs. Yeah, that took some math work Einstein. No one wears number 7. Nice detective work. Congratulations for figuring that one out. And it’s called a “jersey” dumbass. Now let’s hear you recite your ABC’s.
- Why pensás that chose to you just now? Did you just say “pendejo” to me??
- It is certain that also Sacramento and Chicago wanted to you? Losers, both of them, so who really GAF?!!
- Barcelona, Real Madrid and Unicaja offered much money by your contract. When choosing the NBA you resigned something? Barcelona? Real Madrid? Are you serious? Next question.
- In spite of the great dream? I said a “question” asswipe.
- and of sos what equipment swells? Yeah, so I pop a boner thinking of playing for the Spurs. . .so what?!!
- To the file? WTF are you talking about Ducks???
- and Jordan no? No, I’m not Michael Jordan. Thanks for pointing that out. You’re, like a genius or something.
- To play in the champion means some extra pressure? Yeah, I have to not suck or I’ll get ridden out of town on a rail. Sloveians are the only people allowed to suck while still maintaining their roster spots.
- and what promise you did by this fulfilled dream? I’m in the show baby!!! Dream fulfilled.
and this folks is why you need to check your translator to make sure he ain't making stuff up
Edgar...you've been a bad boy.
so is this gauranteed hes wearing number 7?![]()
googlefish is so ing hilarious
I'll just translate the stuff Oberto says and not the fluff from the writer
"Since I'm 21 I've been working and sacrificing for this moment"
"I want to enjoy these moments prior to moving. I was close so many times and it didn't work out that now I just want to enjoy this great feeling. Everything is arranged with the Spurs, there is a pre-agreement, the only thing left is to sign. In principle, it should have been done these days, but the NBA postponed the freeagent signing date one week."
-¿You didnt want to talk about the transfer for fear it might not go through?
-I don't know, it seems that the news was rushed out. I wanted everything to be more low-key.
-¿What do you suppose coach Gregg Popovich will ask of you?
-Defense and rebounding, which is what I do best. I just want to feel useful to the team, and I am willing to sacrifice myself for that. I suppose I will need time to adapt, but I don't think I will have trouble with tactics. Well, I'll just have to see what is asked of me when I arrive.
-¿Do you think your style fits the Spurs?
-Yes, of course, its more of a European style. I don't see myself on a high speed (fast-breaking) team.
-¿How does Ginobili's presence help you?
-Manu is a superstar in the NBA and a great friend who can give me good advice. We both really enjoy playing together. I spoke to him a couple of times this week because I have a lot of questions about how everything is. I asked him about everything. On the national team we never spoke about our club teams.
-¿How do you imagine your arrival in SA?
-I don't want to think about it too much, but surely it will be very exciting. I'm going to measure it by my stomach ache, which is a feeling I almost always get before games, even against easy teams, because I think: ¡what if we lose against these guys! It will be huge because I've been waiting for this since I was 21.
-9 years ago there were no argentines in the NBA. ¿Why did you have that dream?
-Because it is the max in my profession, it means reaching the highest step.
-¿What happened when you were 21, that made you dream of the NBA?
-It all started with a tourney the national team played in Brazil, where we were told NBA scouts were watching. I thought I had chances, I even got invited to a tournament in the US. The next year I was placed in the draft. Things started adding up until, in the McDonald´s tournament in París, an offer came from Chicago, which got frustrated by my agents, and then the failed attempts with the Knicks.
-it must have been hard to deal with the disappointment
-There were several years of suffering, of work and sacrifice thinking of the NBA. I always wanted to make it. At one point, when I decided to join Tau Cerámica, I wanted to forget everything and convince myself the NBA wasnt for me, but there was always a latent desire.
-¿Does it arrive late?
-No, not at all. Its destiny. If it comes now its for a reason. I dont think about how much longer I'll be able to play, but I feel more motivated to work than when I was 20.
-You must have noticed no one wears #7 on the Spurs.
-Yes, I saw, I'm waiting for them to ask me so I can claim it.
-¿Why do you think they chose you now?
-It must be several things. The victories against the Dream Team, in the World Cup and Olympics, must have influenced a lot, but also my career in Europe and the experience I have.
-¿Is it true Sacramento and Chicago were also interested?
-The only somewhat serious offer was from Memphis. From the rest I heard nothing. I told my agent to only tell me about NBA offers if it was serious and concrete.
-Barcelona, Real Madrid and Unicaja offered a lot of money for your transfer. ¿Did you give up money for the NBA?
-I didnt really look at the numbers, but I dont think so. If it was a big difference I would have stayed in Europe.
-¿Despite the dream?
-Yes, its my career and my future.
-¿And what team do you root for?
-¡San Antonio! [laughter]
-No, no, no, I'm going to...
-¿check the files?
-Yes, yes, before the world cup you answered...
-[more laughter] Well, well I was a fan of Chicago because I liked to watch Tony Kukoc, I tried to copy his moves. I thought he was an interesting player.
-¿And Jordan?
-He was a supreme player, but too dificult to imitate.
-¿Does playing in the champ mean more pressure?
-For sure, but I always like that kind of pressure. I always want to be on a team with ambition.
-¿And what promise have you made now that your dream has come true?
-I made one: I'm going to a place, but I will tell you later, you know, just in case.
Damn, I'm late as always. Work is a bummer.
Another Argentine Player in the Spurs roster
A 9-year Dream
The “Cordobes” Fabricio Oberto will sign next week a contract with the NBA Champs, San Antonio. He will be his friend’s (Manu Ginobili) ideal partner and will fulfill, once and for all, his great objective which is to play in the NBA. “Since I was 21 I have been working and sacrificing for this”.
Feelings get mixed up in Fabricio Oberto’s mind. At times he feels overjoyed knowing that sooner rather than later he will be wearing the Spurs’ jersey #7 and he will fulfill a long dream of playing in the NBA; other times he asks himself how will living in San Antonio and playing in the Championship team along Manu and Tim Duncan be.
Nevertheless, there is one overwhelming feeling that floats above everything: his feeling for little Julia, his first child, who was born on July 6.
“I want to cherish these moments before I finally start playing. So many times I was so close to being transferred to an NBA team. Now I want to cherish this wonderful feeling. Everything is set with the Spurs, there is a pre-agreement, the only thing missing is the contract signature. This should happen in the coming days. The NBA has once again delayed the free agents signing period to next week.”
You did not want to talk about the trade because you were afraid the whole thing would fall apart?
I don’t know. I think the information hit the media too early. I would have preferred everything to be in a quieter manner.
What do you think Pop will expect from you?
Defense and rebounding, which is what I do best. I just want to feel useful to the team, and I am willing to sacrifice for this. I suppose I will need an adaptation period, but I don’t think I will have problem in terms with the technical stuff. Well, I guess I have to wait and see what is expected of me.
Do you think your style fits well with that of the Spurs?
Yes, of course, their style is more European. I don’t see myself in a fast pace team.
How does Manu’s presence benefit you?
Manu is an NBA superstar and a good friend that can give me valuable advice. We enjoy playing with each other. I have spoken with him several times the last few days because I have lots of questions to ask him. In the NT, we never spoke about the details of the league teams we play for.
How do you imagine your arrival to SA?
I try not to think too much about it but I believe it will be a very emotional moment. I will measure it by the pain in my stomach, which is the feeling I get before a game, even if the team is an easy rival, because I always think: “What will happen if we lose to these guys?”. It will be huge for me because I have been thinking about playing in the NBA since I was 21 years old.
9 years ago there were no Argies in the NBA, why were you so hopeful?
Because playing in the NBA is every player’s dream, it’s the maximum aspiration.
What happened when you were 21 that made you think about the NBA as a possibility?
It all started with a tournament the Argentine NT played in Brazil and we were told there were NBA scouts present. I thought I had chances (of being elected). Moreover, they invited me to play a tournament in the US. Next year I was included in the Draft Guide. One thing led to another until, in the McDonald’s tournament in Paris, the Bulls made me an offer, but my agents frustrated that possibility. There were also some other failed opportunities with the Knicks
It must have been difficult after so many frustrations
They were long years of suffering and working hard having the NBA as my ultimate goal. I have always wanted to play there. At one moment in time, when I left Tau, I wanted to forget about the NBA but the desire was too strong.
Isn’t it a little too late?
Not in the least. It’s destiny. If it happened now, it must be for a reason. I don’t think how long I will be able to play, but I feel I have a bigger desire to work than what I had when I was 20 yrs old.
Have you noticed that in SA nobody wears #7?
Yes. I’m waiting for them to ask me which # I want so I can ask for #7.
Why do you think they picked you now?
There must be a number of reasons. Our achievements with the NT and the way I’ve been playing in Europe.
Is it true that Sacramento and Chicago were after you?
They only more or less formal offer I received was from Memphis. I did not hear anything else from other teams. I told my agents to only bother me if there was a concrete chance of playing in the NBA.
What team are you fan off?
Spurs [he laughs]
Really . . . ? After the World Cup you said something different
[more laughs]. Well, I always rooted for Chicago because I liked Tony Kukoc; I wanted to imitate his moves.
What about Jordan?
The greatest player, very difficult to imitate.
Do you feel an added pressure playing for the NBA Champs?
Yes, but I like this kind of pressure. I always like to play for contenders.
Any promises you made now that you dream has come true?
One: I will go to a special place, but I will not tell you jus now, just in case.
