SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio Police Officer Robert Deckard, who was shot in the head nearly two weeks ago while pursuing armed robbery suspects, died Friday morning at San Antonio Military Medical Center.

Deckard, a father of two and seven-year veteran of the force, was 31.

The officer had been in the intensive care unit since the Dec. 8 shooting with a bullet lodged in his brain. He is the only San Antonio police officer since 2007 to have been fatally shot in the line of duty.

“Although it pains us to let him go, we must begin to and are thankful for the fact that we have had these few precious days with him since he was injured,” Deckard's family said in a statement Wednesday. “We do take pride in knowing that Bobby was doing what he loved doing; protecting the citizens of San Antonio.” ........................


So senseless. Why kill the officer? You are in enough mess robbing banks. Well, enjoy the inside of a jail cell the rest of your life. Until you are given the needle hardened criminals.
