You probably hit the "work offline" tab.

Open FF>Go to File>Scroll down and deselect "work offline."

thanks shadow for advise .... wish it were that simple... this is the message i get . the firefox start page comes up ok but any attempt to load any page is met with rebuff

    Unable to connect

Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at www.nhra.com.

The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

also noted pc acting stupid lately and when i checked on windows updates a load of them never downloaded correctly... and tried running windows search for updates it just went through motion forever and did not show any. i went to windows site and forced some updates still no joy

    Might be your connection then.

Can you browse the net fine with the other browsers? How's the speed?

Also, what version of FF are you running? The later versions of it are so buggy its unreal.

    Try a version that's not above 18. Personally I use 2.6.

Best Firefox version ever. Its too bad I had to upgrade in order to intergrade add ons that I desperately need.

The PC updates thing sounds like a corrupted framework. I had a similar issue where updates kept re-downloading every time i restarted the compurter.

If all fails you might want to try Google Chrome.

    ElNono
and Cry Havoc will help you better on this issue I bet.

No way should Avira do that. Try disabling it to see if it makes a difference.

Highly recommend before you do anything, though, that you run a malwarebytes scan.

Until then I would switch to Chrome if it works for you.

    Good old malwarebytes.

I got hijacked by adpeakproxy a few days ago and malwarebytes cleaned that up good.

I'm actually dealing with the worst virus I've ever encountered. It's nasty. Going to just format and force it to go away.

Hate when I have to do that. Done it twice since I bought this computer.

Luckily I have a backup disk drive within the computer so all I have to do is move the essential programs there and hit re-install windows.

    Too smart for that son.

Not too smart for downloading an unknown file though.

Wanted a screensaver clock and all I got was a massive headache.

I caught one downloading a mobi file, brain farted and clicked on a self extracting file It actually blocked Bonjour on my PC and I couldn't access my video files from my AppleTV. Superantispyware cleaned it up, but I ran malwarebytes too just to make sure.

Sadly I think it was a torrent for a game crack (that or an OST download). It is a biiiiitch to clean, it's a key logger and I've thrown everything at it. Serves me right though, and tbh I'm seriously overdue for a hard drive cleaning anyway.

Do a system restore to a day before the browser stopped responding.

    Does that even work anymore?

    Hasn't for me for years.

it can get you to a spot where you can run malware programs properly if nothing else sometimes.

My best bet is that you have a proxy set up or something changed your DNS settings. Some of those 'search bars', sometimes will do that.

Try following these instructions to reset Firefox and see if that helps:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb...sing-safe-mode

If not, it might be your network settings

Try uninstalling Firefox and reinstalling. That should reset the settings.
