Spurs Sign Shannon Brown to 10-day Contract
February 1, 2014
SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Spurs today announced that they have signed guard Shannon Brown to a 10-day contract. At the same time the Spurs released Othyus Jeffers from his 10-day contract.
Brown, 6-4/210, most recently played for the Phoenix Suns from 2011-13. In two seasons with the Suns he appeared in 118 games, averaging 10.7 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 23.7 minutes per game.
The seven-year NBA veteran has also played for the L.A. Lakers (2009-11), Charlotte (2008-09), Chicago (2007-08) and Cleveland (2006-08). For his career Brown has appeared in 374 games, averaging 8.1 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 18.7 minutes. The Illinois native was originally drafted by the Cavaliers with 25th pick in the 2006 NBA Draft.
In addition to his NBA career, Brown has spent time in the NBA Development League with the Iowa Energy (2008), Rio Grande Valley Vipers (2008) and the Albuquerque Thunderbirds (2007).
Collegiately, Brown played three seasons at Michigan State University (2003-06), appearing in 97 career games, averaging 12.2 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 28.0 minutes.
Brown will wear No.1 for the Spurs and will be available tonight when the Silver and Black take on the Sacramento Kings at the AT&T Center at 7:30 p.m.
Jeffers was originally signed by the Spurs on Jan. 24. He saw action in four games, averaging 1.8 points and 1.5 rebounds in 8.5 minutes per game.
Good, good. Speed, athletism, shooting, defense but another shooting guard. Better then Jeffers for sure.
Daaamn, I didn't even know he was out of the league. I thought he still played for the Suns. I support this move.![]()
I'm surprised he doesn't have a team this year, thought he was still with the Suns. What just happened to him? It seems that he's playing well last year with the Suns.
Me too!
Was he injured or what?
With Shannon and Parker, is any teammates wife safe??
Meh move.. Still playing with Guards and PF/Cs.
Was traded to Wizz in the Gortat trade then cut.
Damn, and here I thought that I got it first for once...

Seems like we both had the same train of thought. Your guess is as good as mine.![]()
Brown was/is a good player but with all the size and defense that Spurs lack on the perimeter, signing a small offensive minded SG is so weird.
I don't get what Spurs are trying to do.
Need length and athleticism, go with short shooting guard. Sounds like the spurs. As long as it only stays at 10 days
Oh. Thanks.
I think this move is nice. Spurs should trade Bonner, De Colo and Joseph for a decent rotational player that's athletic and also to open more spot.
Atleast finally. Brown is athletic, somehow the Spurs is missing though we need it on 3-5 spot but hoping they sign him for the rest of the season and move those I mentioned earlier.
Maybe the Spurs will try to move someone? Lately Spurs having a weird move for starting Joseph on SG spot.
Hopes this works out and they trade someone for a decent rotational player!
If I recall Brown's game he needs the ball in his hand to be effective. Still another short SG to add to the list. Not a real big defensive player either.
You mad, bro?Just kidding! Thought ace3g will post it first.
Yeah.I remebered him last year playing some decent game with the Suns.
Not bad. The two-guard position is kind of weak as well with Ginobili out. Brown is a legitimate NBA player who has been on winning teams. Would him having five more inches make this acquisition better? Damned skippy. But it is what it is. Worst comes to worst, it's only for 10 days.
You're scraping the bottom of the barrel when it comes to long SFs in free agency. Seems like the Spurs would rather have an able body and ride out this injury bug. Seriously, who's out there that fits the SF mold? SJax? Bleh.
He's the second coming of the CENTERPIECE!

athletics at his best, he can defend?
He can dunk. So Pop will probably bench him.![]()
