Might as well make this interesting. A learning experience.
Robert Johnson first recorded in 1936 in a hotel room in San Antonio Texas.
Obviously I have a wealth of those types of tid bits so I will always have the last word.
If I'm not mistaken it was the Menger Hotel downtown.
In the movie "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" the Tommy Johnson character was borrowed from real life Robert Johnson and used as a minor subplot even though the movie was an adaptation of Homers' Odyssey.
Excellent flick with excellent acting and screenplay writing by the Coen Brothers.

But....Chris Thomas King played the part of Tommy Johnson not Robert. Tommy Johnson is the guy who originated that..."sold my soul at them crossroads"....story back in the late 20's. He is considered one of the founding fathers of them Mississippi Delta Blues. Charley Patton, Rube Lacy, Son House, Ishman Bracey and Willie Brown the gang that Johnson belonged to, They all recorded between 28-30. Robert not until 36.
