I read the brief article on ExpressNews but I ain't subscribing to that trash.

Anyways, it reported that Spurs are offering rent incentive to employees for moving to the downtown area. Anyone have a better article to post on here? Thanks!

It's not bad for coming in from out of town though. You can quickly and easily hop on/off the highway before/after games. If I was a local though, ya, I'm sure I'd feel the same.

That wasn't the Spurs decision, other than by virtue of their willingness to work with Bexar County when the City of San Antonio couldn't work something out to get the building funded. Had the City participated in that process when it had the chance, the new arena would have been downtown and a total boon to the City. Instead, the City leaders kept trying to tie unpopular pet projects to the referendum and the Spurs were left to partner with Bexar County; Bexar County's only reasonably available land was near the Freeman Coliseum, which is how the building ended up there. It's certainly not an ideal location for the type of events it hosts and the notion of developing the surrounding area to make it more attractive to arena patrons has never materialized for whatever reason.

Yup, the city kept tying the Convention Center and all kinds of to that vote. Could have been great for restaurants and bars downtown.

SA is going to lose the Spurs to Austin if they aren't careful with the next arena.

As awesome as it would be for us here in town, I don't think it would be a smart franchise move at all. SA loves their home team more than any other professional sports franchise around, Austin would have to worry about a Mexican invasion, tbh.

I think Seattle is better off buying the Bucks and the East can take Memphis

There is no chance of the Spurs leaving San Antonio anytime in the next few decades, so its really a moot point.

Yeah I'm coming from Austin so it's easy for me but it's always great to leave a game and hit up restaurants/bars whatever. Wish they could have put it where Hemisfair was.

Stephen Asshole Smith and Chris Broussard would shoot themselves if that happened.

it would just be nice to have a local team i support besides the Kings. the raiders are a 6 hour drive away, and while i dont care much for baseball anyway, im not even a dodger fan. i'm a diamondbacks fan (randy johnson is my favorite player of all time)

but we all know kobe is more likely to lead the league in assists next year than have the spurs move to Ls Angeles

Could Austin support the team with UT being front and center? Also like mentioned above, what about the traffic situation? I know the city is more compressed so it could be interesting.

personally i'd have mixed feelings. It would definitely be an easier drive for me, especially if I move back to Austin metropolitan area. But Austin Spurs doesn't roll off the tongue like San Antonio Spurs. I also think SA is a unique city and Spurs are a huge part of that iden y/history. I wouldn't be against it, it would be similar to Niners moving from San Fran to Santa Clara, not much of a difference. But I do feel like Spurs belong in SA. Also, I don't think SA has reached its potential yet as a city or as a home for Spurs. But like you said, if the city is so stupid to screw that up, then Austin would be an easy move.

I do laugh at trolls downstairs who say the team is going to Kansas City or Seattle. That would be such a terrible decision by the NBA, I know I'd quit supporting the league. Austin is a perfect choice if necessary but I don't think it would need to be.

If the city pisses off the Spurs enough for them to leave town, the city deserves it tbh. The franchise has been pretty god damn loyal to San Antonio and has never really asked for much.

There is just a stupid amount of money rolling around up here. A lot of things would have to happen in both cities, but a new arena is going to be build here probably just around the time the ATT Center lease runs out. It doesn't take much imagination to see what could possibly happen.
