Let's revisit this ranking. Manu got ranked #86 among players for their expected contributions THIS season only.
He turned in the following stats:#1 in offensive efficiency #9 in Real Plus Minus #27 in PER
Yet he does not make the All-Star Game. Will not get All-NBA honours. Will likely not finish in the top 2 in 6-man of the year awards losing to Taj Gibson and Jamal Crawford.
Completely underpaid at $7m a year for being a top 30 player in the league. (Which by definition means 'franchise' player)
So sad this man will be forgotten. He was never celebrated by the masses, and is already forgotten and all this while he's still playing.
Respect.
Holy ing you are god damned delusional. Manu s have to be among the lowest iq people on this board.
Unfortunately his Finals performance didn't help in the contract negotiations... but we'll adjust the numbers for his next deal...
I'm a huge manu fan but he's not a top 30 player
I do think 86 is a joke, but he should be around top 50 right now...
At this point I'm used to it. People call Spurs fans whiners because we complain that the media doesn't talk about our team much. That's not it. We're upset because our players, specifically Tony Parker and Manu Ginobil, don't get the respect they deserve.
Tony Parker is the best PG of this generation, and there's a close second. And yet you constantly hear that he's just a 'top 5' PG and that Chris Paul or Deron Williams, or even Rajon Rondo are better PG's than him. Blasphemous. Tony Parker has always DESTROYED those guys in the playoffs.
And Manu ing Ginobili. Oh my God where do I begin? He's perhaps the greatest compe or on earth, and is absolutely a top 20 player all time, and yet you hear the media actually debate whether he should be in the 'Hall of Fame'... I mean, it's just sickening. I almost wish Manu had left the Spurs early in his career, gone to another team, and led his new team to multiple championships just so everyone could know how great he was.
Without a doubt, Tony Parker and Mani Ginobili are going to go down as two of the most underrated players in NBA history. And that's why Spurs fans are always angry at the media. Because they only talk about and acknowledge two things: how great Duncan is, and how great the Spurs 'system' is. But Parker and Ginobili are 100% forgotten and dis-respected at every turn, when they're elite all time players. It's a shame.
7-year max contract in 2015, tbh...

Agreed, tbh.
Manu is a top 5 SG in today's NBA, though, IMO... SG in the NBA is kind of weak now, especially with Kobe's TOSBness. You might be able to make an argument for top 3, tbh.
Just for s and giggles, I went and looked at Goran Dragic's player ranking before the season started. Obviously, no one could know he'd blossom into an upper-echelon player, but this is pretty damn funny.
He's ranked #107.
Players ranked higher than Goran Dragic:
OJ Mayo
Danny Granger
Brandon Jennings
Ricky Rubio![]()

Ersan Ilyasova

Who cares, let him prove himself in the playoffs.
LOL top 30 player in the league, you ruined your post right there. I am a Manu fan and wish him well but cot damn some of you fans are just delusional at times with that CRAP. He is not a top 30 player in the league, sorry. He is around 50 some odd now. He is a great 6th man, no doubt. He has already before but I agree I hope he does well this year.
RIP PHX's season. Y'all s deserved better.
Won't happen..
He will be what? 40 years old?
Almost.
It was a joke, though, tbqh.
You took his comment seriously?
He plays 22 minutes/game which is pretty much role-player status. What the did you expect? Manu's per minute production is great though - most people will agree with you on that.
they have a very good future ahead of them. They have 5 (total) 1st round in this and next years draft (assuming Minny finishes high enough for their pick to transfer) thats not including Len and Goodwin who were top 20 picks last year. They could even package those picks to move up in the draft or to help in acquire a top player in a trade.

Holy , that's completely delusional. I have nothing against Manu, but these claims are ridiculous.
It's comical.
@ having the audacity to call Manu TOSBnobili a "franchise player" Gino-step is gunning for a world record in lowest IQ posts.
Franchise player means the #1 player for your franchise. There are 30 franchises in the league so if he's a top 30 player, he's a franchise player. Got it? The Spurs are #1 because they have 3-4 franchise players. The Bucks are #30 because they have none. 1 player per franchise = Top 30 players.
Now as far as was Manu Ginobili a top 30 player this year? Well let's look at that same ESPN rank.
#27 Rajon Rondo
#28 Brook Lopez
#29 Pau Gasol
#30 Damian Lillard
Would you like to replace Manu with any of those 4 players right now for the playoffs? (Assume Pau and Brook can play at the levels they played at THIS SEASON).
So disrespectful.
Your "replacement" criterion is flawed to begin with. All four players are better than Manu Ginobili, but they would all be completely new to the spurs system and so there would be chemistry issues with such little practice time. Then there's the fact that none of them play the same position as Manu. We have a great big in Splitter but we have a dearth of guards who can create for others. If Rondo was healthy and had sufficient practice time with the Spurs, then yes I would absolutely replace Manu with Rondo. It's a no-brainer.
The Spurs had one franchise player in the last 15 years in Tim Duncan. Manu was never a franchise player. Tony was never a franchise player, although he was closer to achieving "franchise status" during his peak (probably the last two seasons) than Manu.
And great ing job contradicting yourself
First you say franchise player means "#1 player for your franchise." There are 30 teams, and there is a #1 player for all 30 teams, so in principle there should be at least 30 franchise players.
But then you arbitrarily say that the Bucks have 0 franchise players. You can't even stick to your own definitionand following suit I'll say that the Spurs currently have 0 franchise players.
