When I moved to Victoria in 1997 from up north, I paid $1.65 a gallon at the begining of the trip.... and .89cents at the end of the trip!! I thought I had found gas heaven.
Just looking at this chart pisses me off.

Try buying it up north or out west now. You may be in gas purgatory, but out there it's gas .
We're still paying a pittance compared to what other countries pay, so I'll hold my complaints.
Gas in the DC area is averaging about 2.21 these days.
Average pay, and the cost of living is lower here. But I feel for them too.
Actually, I'm curious. How much is gas over there in SA right now? Here in Philly it's about $2.40 (and that's for the unleaded).
I remember those days when it was 1.02............:depresses
True, but other countries get benefits off of their extra portion because it is mostly tax.
Someone who buys a Civic saves money compared to someone who buys an Accord, but the Accord also comes with more.
Well, I guess that's just my neighborhood. According to the chart, we're paying close to 2.38.
It doesn't really even out like that. I used to live in Britain and I can tell you that gas is prohibitively expensive for lots of people and it does affect their driving habits. Because of high petrol prices, many people don't have cars and people who do have cars often use them only part of the time, choosing buses and trains for a lot of their transportation. Here, everyone can afford to drive.
It would be a good thing if more Americans chose to take trains and buses, but not many American cities are set up in a way that would make that easy.
right now I'm on a gas vacation. I just pay $20 for my VIA big pass and I'm happy.
Also, a big complaint in Britain for many years has been that their roads and motorway system is in pretty bad shape, so these taxes aren't really benefitting motorists.
because they dont use their tax money correctly.so these taxes aren't really benefitting motorists.
Kinda like this country.
$2.57 is the cheapest I can find in West LA.
I just paid 2.40 for super premium yesterday. I reprogrammed the chip in my truck and added about 50 more horsepower so I can't buy regular.
And I remember paying 19 cents a gallon at Shamrock for regular during a gas war...
I filled my car up yesterday and it was $85.00 ing dollars... Let me tell you it was very painful.............

Gas prices are simply f-ing ridiculous in the U.S. It cost me almost $40 f-ing bucks to gas up my phat ass Lincoln Towncar the other day. Damn, that`s even way, way more expensive than Brazil. F- that.
What the do you drive??
Suburban....so not only was I ripped off at the pumps, my other issue compunded it...
i wish it was that low again
5 years ago when I got my first car gas was .99/gallon. 5 years and $1.20 more a gallon just doesn't seem right.
those were the days, i could fill up with like 12 bucks
adjusted for inflation it is still not the highest ever...
Correct. People are really fixed on gas prices as opposed to other costs because they're volatile and you're always buying it, but compared to, say, real estate or the cost of a new auto, gas hasn't gone up all that much.
Going to work yesterday the Exxon by my house listed regular at $2.19 (this was at 5AM) on the way home the very same day and the same Exxon the listed regular price was $2.29 (around 2:30PM). They jacked the price a whole 10 cents in less than 24 hours!!!
