Pop is still a work in progress. Phil Jackson gets a lot of love for his 9 rings but he also criticized because some say anyone could have done it with Jordan and Shaq/Kobe. At this point, people are saying Pop has never won anything without Duncan.

I don't think the number of rings is the only thing to look at. Jerry Sloan is a uva coach but he has no rings and is the longest tenured coach in the league. Rudy T has two rings but looked lost in LA.

Trying to create a concrete list of Best Coaches is more or less an impossibility. There are too many different factors which would be calculated differently by each and every person, based on opinion of importance.

I think his winning percentage (best in the major 4 Pro-Sports since he's been an active coach), his championships (3), and his relationships with his players (outstanding, whether they be with his Spurs team, his Olympic team, or even his All-Star team) all basically speaks for itself.

Even I think that LB and Pop are the same school, for me Pop has some advantages.

1.- He is less dogmatic. For instance when he sees that pushing the tempo is better, he'll do it, I think at this point that LB is all half court offense. Look at the 7th game of the finals, Pop used a 2-3 zone like other teams used in the Olympics against USA and the half court offense collapsed. On the other hand Pop with a USA C team won the Goodwill Games playing pragmatically a mixture of halfcourt and up tempo. At this point I would swear that PHX would have beat DET in the finals only because of bad matchups of style.

2.- He is more respectful and kind with his players.

3.- He is the Spurs coach

If Pop coaches as long as LB he will be hands down the better coach.

Phil Jackson only chooses to coach teams who have a proven all star or two on it. When i see him take over the New Orleans Hornets and bring them to a winning percentage....then ill say he is a good coach

Brown is all about Brown. I don't know why Pop likes him so much since Brown has yet to get over himself.

Larry Brown may be an excellent Xs and Os coach, better than Pop. But the proof is in the pudding. A great coach takes over a team and strives until his program wins. When he loses, he retools and gets more horses and keeps the program moving forward through setbacks. Three championships in seven years with different personnel is therefore more impressive than three wins with the same personnel.

Brown cannot build a dynasty and no one has ever seriously thought he would--because, for some reason, he cannot stay in one place with his program.
