Though card counting isn't illegal when doing it mentally, one report I read said he used arranged casino checks to keep the counting strait. True of false? I have no clue. I suspect he's just that good.
Funny, he cannot do at the WSOP. I think this is all a ruse.

What the others are doing at the table has zero impact on your card counting. The only thing that matters is your ability to judge the reamining decks to be rich or poor and to vary your bets accordingly this is why it is so easy for the casino to bust a card counter.
But in all fairness most (if not all) of the 6 decks games I've recently seen in Vegas are now using the constant shuffling machine and reingest the played cards straight into the mix, which then kills the card counting anyway.
