TlongII : "Bench play doesn't matter in the playoffs.."![]()
Earl Watson? Will Barton? Did these guys even play in the regular season? How did they make it this far without a bench?
TlongII : "Bench play doesn't matter in the playoffs.."![]()
Nope, that's why the 40+ minutes of the big 3-4 are killing them right now.
I agree stars help win the series with their play at times, but when they can't rest at all and get run into the ground because you have no bench that weighs HEAVY on the guys. Bench players have taken over a game or series before in spurts, TLONG with wishful thinking there.
Better question - does the Spurs bench beat the best bench guys from the other three west teams?
PG - Reggie Jackson
SG - Mo Williams (not even healthy)
SF - Caron Butler (wasn't even on a team a few months ago)
PF - Big Baby (also wasn't on a team)
C - One of those OKC bigs - Adams or Collison
Even though we know Reggie Jackson can beat us 1-on-5, this unit looks atrocious.
Chances are pretty high that at least one role player will step up and have a good game, anybody that thinks bench play is irrelevant either just started watching basketball or is the epitome of a fair-weather fan. I don't think I can even name one championship team that didn't have solid bench.
No they don't have a bench......DUH!!!
funniest though was EJ saying he thought the Spurs bench would be the difference maker and Barkley, in his classic dumbass fashion, said it was irrelevant to the playoffs.
to be fair to chuck, a lot of posters here said the same thing...
probably not a good thing for Chuck to be on the same level as SpursTalkers
But this Spurs is the ultimate sum of the parts or true team, the bench is not your ordinary bench. You can't expect the big 3 to play tons of minutes. For EJ to get it and not Chuck is alarming.
Chuck's never understood the importance of having a bench. Why do you think he never won a chip?

Re: PLAYOFFS: ROUND 2, GAME 3 - SPURS @ BLAZERS - 5/10/14, SATURDAY, 7:30 PM (PST),
Our bench has 2 points.......... 2 ing points.
“I’ve been around the NBA for 10 years and played a lot of games with a lot of players and seen a lot of things,” said guard Mo Williams. “I’ve seen shots, yeah. Have I seen a shot like that? Noooooo.”
Some of it is on Stotts, tbh... as Chinook said, he's done nothing to stop either the bench (like Carlisle did for 6 games) or the big 3... bad combo... but yeah, the Spurs will need a balanced scoring act to move forward...
your boy Patty has been great out there. maybe forcing some of his shots or getting a little too jacked up, but he's been an absolute pest on defense. I love it.
I don't understand why Portland stopped pressing on the inbounds. It was causing problems. Maybe they are too tired?
Your right, for him to think that and as old as he is shows you he is naive in ways! He as a fan should know throughout his years that you need a bench to win in the playoffs. They have no bench at all, none. Mo Williams is cool and Matthews, but honestly a 7 man rotation? I knew in game one late when down 20 plus and them running their starters into the ground something was wrong.Ask CHUCK how the bench was for Houston when they came back from 3-1 a few years on the heavily favored Suns? I bet he would stop talking then.
they have a bench and they are sitting on it ...
This guy is practically their entire bench.![]()
That's not a viable defense for a coach that plays his players 40 minutes. They'd be gassed doing it for a quarter.
