This dude is so logical with his approach to life, being a father, understanding what sport means and odds of winning etc. Does this contradict with him being labeled the "fearless, ultimate compe or"? Tell me. What other NBA player would be ok with playing 11 minutes in a crucial game?

Yet this dude doesn't complain. Where is his fire? Why doesn't he sub himself in? He talks about playing with intensity, but what happened here?

Same with Parker. "No I played great! I shot over 50% from the field today. It's just I only played 5 minutes in the 2nd half" ... no dude, you got killed out there in the minutes you did get.

Seems like the Spurs are a bunch of defeatists now. Act like champions seriously.

Manu would play on one leg......Pop is the coach. He puts players in and out of the game.
Pop knows Manu always wants to play...........

Pop has this idea that he's saving his players for something more... not sure what that is since its the WCF, now is not the time to manage minutes but he's a "genius". Parker is french so that makes him passive but then Old man Pop just takes whatever balls he has left and completely removes them. Manu was the ultimate compe or in his prime and it was hard to reign in that kind of ability but Pop managed to Neuter him over the years he will accept his place in defeat.. Duncan got his nuts clipped a long time ago. Pop can do no wrong. They could be down 1 and if Pop benched all 3 of them they'd love it and eat it up, "thanks Pop, it was the best decision ever"

Manu's not that guy anymore. Get over it. He hit his first mid range jump shot and then bricked 6 of his next 7 shots.

Even Nono knows that relying on Manu is fool's gold in this day and age.

I'm not saying Manu playing only 11 minutes won't turn out to be a great thing. This guy plays so much better off of 3-4 days rest and hopefully this will be that for him and he'll play like he did in Game 3. But me understanding that logic means Manu himself understands that too. And that understanding is overriding the compe or in him. And that's why this is going nowhere. Cause you aint winning the championship if you've convinced yourself that you aren't going to get it done on a game to game basis.

Yeah, the bigger story though is if COTY is getting tuned out at this point. You saw Timmy pretty pissed with Pop, some rift with Danny, Tony half-hardheartedly calling him out on throwing the towel.

They're all pros, but they all want to give it all to be out there and win, even if they're fully aware they're not what they used to.

I still think they're going to give it all at home next game, and that might or might not be enough. You would think Pop is done throwing games away.

You have to get through both of these armies with a bad knee'd 38 year old on his final contract year, an Argie who's turnover prone and his good days are now few and far in between, and a rapping French point guard who played all summer in France. The rest of the team is comprised of people who couldn't make it on other squads, aside from Leonard who is still confused as to where he needs to be on the floor, whether attacking is the right thing or if Pop will get mad.... and yet here they are in the WCF tied 2 - 2. I mean, if they lose they lose, but at some point in your day to day life does it ever dawn on you that you expect too much for basically nothing?

Tim was telling Pop that it wasn't his fault for not being where he was supposed to be, that he didn't cause Danny to throw the ing ball away. Tim told Danny "if I'm not open, don't throw the ing ball". Tim told Pop that regardless where he was, it's Danny's choice to throw the ball to the play instead of to the player. Danny is an idiot though.

Yeah but I think all coaches get tuned out at some point. Pop's mantra of "play harder, play smarter" doesn't do much for you if his subs make no sense, and if he's throwing the towel in with 18 minutes left in regulation.

I can't imagine we'll see Pop do that again. Despite all the cliff jumping, the series isn't in jeopardy yet.

I guess game 6 would be the next logical game to throw.

I was at home thinking about the bricks Manu would inevitably put up in game 4 after his 20 point first half in game 3 meant zilch, zero, nada in terms of leading our team to victory

Most of Manu's shots after his first two were forced after receiving the ball with seconds left on the shot clock. It's all about context. Rather than running some plays through Manu, all the action was going through Green and Leonard during Ginobili's time on the court.

You'd have to not understand the game at all (or only look at the stats) to think Manu played poorly. He played excellent offense and defense, but the coaching was horrific. Also, if you'll watch replays of the latter part of the third quarter, you'll see that Ginobili is seething on the bench. It's obvious he's disgusted. I think all of the players recognize, however, that if you show mental weakness now and pull any mutiny cards, season's over.

Actually he got killed by Westbrick on both ends - that's why he was ultimately pulled out by Pop. He was slow and predictable and Westbrick OWNED him. It was pitiful to watch a great player like TP getting owned by WB.
