That series would have been a sweep or 5 if Manu didn't get that bad thigh bruise in game 3
If you have it.
Spurs won games 1 and 2 at home and got destroyed in games 3 and 4 on the road. This is back during 2-3-2 format, so they had to play game 5 on the road. You know the rest of the story, we get saved by Horry and win in OT.
Of course, all similarities end there. The Pistons were a more balanced team, but they did have a crazy shot blocker and more talented bigs. Spurs ran a lot of ISO 4-down to Tim, instead of the motion read and react offense they run now.
But, I can recall thinking the Spurs were in deep after game 4, but they found a way to win.
That series would have been a sweep or 5 if Manu didn't get that bad thigh bruise in game 3
Yes, because Tim and Manu are still in their primes. Smh.
I thought they were fine in 2005 with Prime Duncan and Prime Ginobili even if Parker was in 1940 mode.
But they ain't fine right now. 2-12 against a team they now have to win 2/3 against.
Would have been Detroit in 6, if not for Horry.
It took the whole Detroit team to beat Spurs.
Now OKC only need KD,Westbrook,Ibaka and Reggie Jax to beat Spurs.
KD and Russ, tbh. That's part of their flaw, too. I actually hope Russ tries to score 40 again.
Actually I was watching game 5 of the Seattle series where Manu went HAM. There are a lot of plays that could've been useful against OKC that we don't run anymore
Dude loves his 3 ball too much these days. , the entire team fell in love with the 3 in game 4 -- was really irritating.
Yeah, I don't know why they don't run the "give the ball to Manu and get the out of the way" play any more.
Seattle got no Ibaka
Jerome James!
And Detroit had Ben Wallace, who won DPOY four out of five years between 2001 and 2006.
I watched that Game 5 at one point last summer and was struck by just how physical and intense that game was. That was some big boy basketball. There was no place to run and no place to hide that night in Detroit.
The Spurs had to muster some sort of physicality and nastiness to match what the Pistons had thrown at them in the previous 2 games. You could tell that both coaches understood that they were really down to just playing their 6 best guys while giving a few minutes to the 7th on each roster. Of the 10 players who started that game, 9 played at least 41 minutes (and 8 played at least 44 minutes). Horry and Barry got the only significant minutes off the Spurs bench and Hunter and McDyess were the only guys to play off the Pistons' bench.
If you have Hulu, it's on there along with the others.
Prime Duncan was in his prime, but nowhere near 100%. Remember he was playing on 2 bad ankles/feet..
Jerome James and Vitaly Potapenko gave the Spurs some trouble in that series in Seattle...
That's true, which is why I don't consider the 2005 Spurs the best team in franchise history even though they're obviously the most talented. Still, Duncan on two bad ankles (one very bad) in 2005 was worlds more mobile than now.
This Reverse Gambler's fallacy is hilarious.
Boom. And no Bruce Bowen for defense and Robert Horry for big balls. The 2005 team would manhandle this 2014 pathetic team.
No Robert Horry folks.
I thought Ferrari Bellinelli would come in and take Horry's spot but I might have to can that theory y'all![]()
True. Although we gotta give TD credit for even having the mobility he has now (based on his age and knees). The guy has really lost alot of weight to keep up in today's game. He looks really slim now compared to the 03'-07' days. It's weird to see those DVD's now because he looks so much heavier then compared to how he looks now.
you can compare it to 05, but we didn't really have a history with them like we do with OKC. the most comparable series to this one would be the 2012 WCF (turned out bad) or the 2003 2nd round against the Lakers
