can he do better than SJax last year, which was nothing since he wasn't there... Can he have a positive plus minus for the series? I think he's not in compe ion with Neal anymore at this point (who won us a Finals game and was the hero in multiple PO games) but he should help and be better than an empty roster spot...

With Splitter this is the other big question mark as the FO chose to not sign a true SF and went all in on Beli basically.

His defense is going to continue to be a liability, but if he can somewhat offset it by knocking down open 3's then it'd be huge for us. I think we're actually going to need him this series. Also, his passing can't be horrendous like it was against OKC.

He's not been great this playoffs, but that's okay. Spurs players start shining in their second year.

They don't need him in the Finals, but if he does go off, I don't see Miami recovering. It's just gravy at that point.

when Beli sucked, Gino did well

against Dallas, Gino did well, Marco sucked
against Portland, Marco did well, Gino sucked
against OKC, Gino did well, Marco sucked

against Miami : Gino will suck, Marco will do well ... but since Marco's impact is much lesser than Gino's we'll lose the series

Belli played really well in the playoffs against Miami last year when he was with Chicago, so there's that.

Then again Belli was really the only capable scorer Chicago had...and he played a ton of minutes. He won't get the same opportunity this time around, but at least he's proved that he's not intimidated by Miami.

LOL, Neal didn't win us a Finals game, he merely complimented Green, who was really the one who won us that Finals game. You're also forgetting about his mindnumbingly incompetent attempt at defense when Mike Miller lost his shoe. That play pretty much negated his entire worth as a Spur and was surely one of the main reasons Pop and Co. canned him out of there.

Neal was a huge part of losing Game 6. His "defense" on Miller was downright pathetic. Letting a dude missing a ing shoe hit a wide open 3?

I remember that. We were up 7 or 8 and Neal didn't even look at where he was going. Shoeless Miller saunters over to the 3 point line, Neal is a good 10-15 feet off of him, and you know the rest. Yea, I haven't missed him.

Yeah, that was simply an inexcusable display on Neal's part and pretty much cemented home the fact that he should never be more than a bench player in the league and preferrably for a rebuilding team.

he was an asset against the Blazers, tbh... 9 ppg while giving Manu some rest would work just fine, IMO.

Belinelli is frustrating because he's playing not to lose instead of to win. I think he's an overall better player than Gary Neal, and Neal was so annoying to watch in the finals last year.. but he stepped up in big times... against Memphis.. against Miami in Game 3.. but his defense was horrible.. as someone mentioned the Mike Miller play.

I think Belinelli could make a huge impact if he grew his balls back. Last year it came down to our shooters vs. their shooters last year in the finals.. and Shane Battier, Mario Chalmers, and Mike Miller took them home when Danny and Neal couldn't make a shot.

Beli has already shown in his career that he's not afraid of the big moments. Any tentativeness is mostly due to him still trying to figure out his place in the system. Sometimes it clicks, sometimes it doesn't. He's shown flashes of playing relatively good defense, but he's still a liability and he'd have to be on fire to justify getting an increase in minutes. If he misses some open shots, he needs to be yanked immediately.

He was great against the Heat last year so maybe he'll pick up where he left off.

One thing people can't say about Beli is that he doesn't try on D. He tries to keep with his man and contest to the best of his ability unlike Neal, who's never shown that he gives a damn about the other end of the floor. And this is without mentioning Neal's lack of ball-movement and shot-clock awareness on the offensive end, two things Beli is much better about. I think he has value off the bench in this series.

Actually in that game Green statpadded when it was already a blowout, Neal did win that game.

Heat dont have the athletes anymore that the other teams had on their reserves/starters and they have 0 rim protection
a big reason Marco thrived was because of his ability to cut off ball which good defensive playoff teams will take away like OKC

Miami has been very mediocore defensively while being the best offensive team whcih has carried them in the East
theyll be playing Bosh/Lewis frontcourts since Anderson isnt even sure if hes gonna play and Haslem is washed up and he was never a rim protector to begin with

the trapping defense is also the worst possible defense to defend a Spurs team that has the ball moving and players making the right decisions
its the real reason Green went off from 3 and Marco can do the same since he knows how to move to spots to get good shots

We won by 36 points that game and held Miami to 77 points and I'm pretty sure Neal had nothing to do with limiting Miami's offense then. TD and Kawhi also had double-doubles. Basically all Neal did was score that game. We would've won the game without him going off and Neal did not win us that game. Not knocking what he did then but let's get it straight.

I've almost given up on Benchinelli tbh folks

that's what I get for putting my faith in these Italian descendant half breeds

first Manu, then Benchinelli and couple of days ago the Viper

I still will bank on Benchinelli giving us his best Mike Miller impression at some point in the Finals

but if you are expecting Benchinelli to be consistent throughout the series you might as well wait for the Roman Empire to reemerge
