If Duncan feels that way he'll be around for another 3 years easily.
During the live practice interview on NBA.com
Tim asked to comment on that said he hasn't decided yet and has no timeframe for decision but if he feels he can contribute he'll stay. An d right now he feels like he can contribute
Nothing really new except Pop not saying he'll go at the same time as Tim
If Duncan feels that way he'll be around for another 3 years easily.
Excellent.
Great news on Pop, good news on Timmy (though I wish he was a tad more definitive about coming back).
He just wants to leave it open ended in case this series somehow goes seven with the Spurs trailing by two in the waning moments, then he banks a three off the glass and just walks off the court, never to be heard from again.
I'd be okay with him retiring in that case. Otherwise, he better be back.
Yep. Things can obviously change, but if he stays healthy, I can see him playing 2-3 more seasons.
Good. Assuming we win this year I don't mind if we don't win the championship next year. I won't even mind if we lose in forgettable fashion in the 2nd round. I just want to see us try and repeat with our big 3.
He's been quoted countless times saying he wants to keep playing "until the wheels fall off" and if healthy wheels, then I don't see why not tbqh.
I really think he will stick around for Kawhi. He may have said in the past that he would retire when Timmy retires, but I feel he has too much respect for Kawhi and Tony to just say "see ya you're on your own". I think he wants to see Kawhi through to his full potential.
I think some depends on who the Spurs draft in this loaded draft too.
I wonder how much of this is due to Kawhi making a mini-leap in the last two games?
On Pop:
I don't think you can underestimate the influence of Pop's military background. I can't see him leaving unless an orderly transition of authority is in place. His successor in running the front office is already on the job, so that's not an issue. He had two qualified coaching replacements on staff until Brown and Bud left last summer. So whether he's waiting for one of them to get fired, grooming Udoka, or bringing over Messina for that purpose, Pop will stay on the job until he can hand the team over to someone he trusts to do the job.
On Tim:
A few years ago, Pat Riley compared Tim to Kareem. Said both played a cerebral, finesse game and that he could see Tim playing past 40. Kareem turned 38 in April of 1985, just as Tim turned 38 in April of this year. Kareem then played four more seasons after that. It seems a near certainty to me that Tim will play out his contract next season and continuing for a couple of years beyond that would not be much of a surprise.
Pop is staying until Parker retires. He would never admit it, but I think he's intrigued to coach in the post-Ducan era. I do think Udoka will be our next HC though, as Pop specifically mentioned him as being the guy who helped the new assistants get on board with the Spurs system.
Really thought that Bud will be the successor when there were a few games last year that Pop was 'sicked' and let Bud take over the Head Coach of the team.
I'd want Manu to coach
"that's a lot of turnovers"
-Capt. Jack
Pop can easily coach until he's 70. Maybe ride out Frenchie's career then call it quits and set up another vineyard.
Duncan can play another 3-4 years, Manu plays 15-20mins for 5-10 games a year and the Spurs keep contending....I can dream tbh
I think Manu is on record saying that he had no interest in coaching, unfortunately.
be just like Maradona
Well, looks like Kawhi won't have any plays drawn for him until he retires zzzzzzzzz
That's a shame. He seems like his demeanor and outlook are perfect for being a coach. Front office? I'm just grasping. Honestly I just want the culture the Spurs have cultivated to have as much continuity possible going forward. Timmy's out the door when he retires and I was more optimistic on Many sticking around then Tony.
leonard will make pop keep coaching
he use his hands on pop
Go for a repeat. Everyone stays on board for another 2 years...
I'm cool with that.
I would bet this happens. I don't see Tim or Pop leaving anytime soon, both will go a few more.
