I test drove the G35 sedan 6-speed. I really liked it and it's quick and sounds pretty cool. My lease on my car isn't up until March, so I'm not in the new market really right now, but it would be a car I'd consider.
I'm getting my first new car in the next couple of months. I'm considering either a Lexus IS300 or an Infiniti G35 Coupe. Anyone have an opinion on either or any other recommendations? I'm looking to spend no more than $40,000.

Id vote for the Infiniti.
Lexus IMO are overpriced.
i like the infiniti a little more too, it might be a little stupid on my part, but i just wish i could get it with a nissan skyline badge on it, since thats what it is over in japan.
does it have a rotary?
you might consider a $20000 car and save the rest for GAS![]()
so true! and the truth hurts!![]()
I've driven both. It really depends on what you are in it for. If you want a better driving experience based on car handling, speed, etc etc, I'd definetly go with the G35. If you are in it for more of a luxury ride and smoothness as well as extras, I would go with the Lexus.
Personally, I'd never choose a Lexus over the G36 6 speed.
I wish my first car options could of been as good as yours...
I don't know anything about either car. But the Infiniti looks better to me.
My favorite car for the longest has been the LEXUS IS 300 but i got to admit the drive is better in the G35 ive spent extensive periods in both vehicles, they are both great cars and i would want either one.
I dont know if you've seen the newer models of the IS that have come out...i like that one even more so if you didnt already know the IS is getting a change in body.
The rx-8's do have rotary engines. But you should just go ahead and get one of those giant diesel trucks, like the one that kutcher drives. Don't worry about the gas, the prices will go down.
Infiniti cars are better than Lexus cars. But I need to get me a Lexus RX300.
I'm pretty sure Nissan Skylines are called Nissan Skylines in the USA. I know the R32, R33 and R34 were, I'm not sure about the new redesigned ones because they haven't hit the shores of Australia yet so I know nothing about them, but why would they change the name away from the famous Skyline name just for the USA?i like the infiniti a little more too, it might be a little stupid on my part, but i just wish i could get it with a nissan skyline badge on it, since thats what it is over in japan.
They're aren't any "new" Skylines in the USA, they're actually relabeled as Nissan Z or Infiniti G35, I'd be looking into a Nissan Z if it wasn't a 2 seater.
This won't be my first car ever, just my first brand new/no previous owner car.
Well.
If your looking for safety go for the Lexus.
It's the only type/brand of car that my husband's ever fixed that comes "blood-free" after an accident... and I doubt it's becasue 100% of Lexus drivers use their seatbelts 100% of the time.
(BTW- the vehicles with the most blood stains inside after and accident are navigators and tahoes)

I've heard that the Infinity is a little badass.
But keep in mind both cars probably require premium fuel.
my very 1st car was a 1983 2-door honda. $60 for the le, $1200 for a new dual carbuerator.
but it was all mine baby! all mine!![]()
i forgot about that, so i guess i'll need one loan for the car and another loan for the gas!
If you can go about 14K more, you need to get the Infiniti M35. We drove it this weekend and it is by far the best car that I ever drove, period. It handles like it is on rails, the looks are awesome and the technology is mind boggling. We are getting one this month. The black outside with the bourbon and black interior is beautiful.
Here is Consumer Reports' latest update:
Infiniti M35 rated 'Best luxury sedan'
Consumer Reports magazine calls the sporty car from Nissan a "surprise."
August 9, 2005: 12:26 PM EDT
DETROIT (Reuters) - The sporty Infiniti M35 powered past its compe ors to become what Consumer Reports, a leading source of information for U.S. car buyers, says is the best luxury sedan on the road today.
The "excellent" overall rating for the car from the luxury division of Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. is reported in the September issue of the magazine, which goes on sale Tuesday.
The Infiniti M35 was tested against four other models and each, as equipped, was priced at roughly $50,000. The other models were the redesigned Audi A6, the Cadillac STS, Acura RL and Lexus GS300.
"The surprise of this test group is the M35, which is now our top-rated (luxury) sedan. It even outscores all of our tested full-size premium luxury sedans," Consumer Reports says.
"This well-rounded car has a ride and handling suited for twisty roads as well as the boulevard," it adds, saying the car's many attributes include a powerful 280-horsepower V-6 engine, a roomy, well-finished interior and controls that are mostly user-friendly.
A 335-horsepower, V-8 power plant is an available option on the M35.
The A6 from Audi, a unit of Volkswagen AG, also got an "excellent" overall score from Consumer Reports. But it was faulted for "nonintuitive controls," its lack of an in-dash CD slot and unknown reliability. The previous A6 was not reliable, according to Consumer Reports.
Of the five vehicles tested, Consumer Reports said all but the Cadillac STS, from General Motors Corp., and the Audi A6 warranted inclusion on its closely watched "recommended" list.
Consumer Reports said the reliability of the STS, which replaces Cadillac's Seville sedan, was still unknown. It praised many aspects of the car, but said the material quality of its interior was "not as luxurious as the leaders in the class."
The Infiniti M35 replaces the Lexus LS430 -- which sells for about $70,000 -- as Consumer Reports' top-rated luxury sedan.
The magazine said the GS300, from Toyota Motor Corp.'s luxury division, was refined and expected to be quite reliable. But it added that the car's steering lacks feel, passenger room is tight, and it is not an agile vehicle.
"It's not the luxury sport sedan Lexus pitches; we didn't find it particularly exciting to drive," Consumer Reports said.
Of the Acura RL, the latest offering from the luxury arm of Honda Motor Co. Ltd., the magazine complained that it was not particularly sporty to drive. It also said the RL was no roomier than the Acura TL, which costs about $16,000 less.
I have an Infiniti I35 now, and I love it, but it is nowhere near as nice as this M is.
Go drive it, you will be freaked out, I promise you.
If I had $14K more, I would also be interested in the new Corvette, but I've driven the M45 too, which is very nice. I'm more interested in the sporty type of car, more so than the luxury.
It handles better than all the sports cars that I have driven, except the Vette. I drove the Z a few months ago and this M blows it away on a curved road, I swear man...I almost had an orgasm.
almost.![]()
