Islamic State seizes oil field and towns in Syria's east

BEIRUT (Reuters) - Militants from the Islamic State group seized control of Syria's largest oil field from rival Islamist fighters on Thursday, strengthening its advance across the eastern Deir al-Zor province, an opposition monitoring group said.

The capture of the al-Omar oil field gives Islamic State control of crude reserves which could be useful to its advancing fighters, and underlines how the al Qaeda offshoot has eclipsed its militant rivals by capturing territory and assets across Syria and Iraq in the past few weeks.

It has declared an Islamic 'caliphate' on lands it has seized in both countries, and urged Muslims worldwide to flock there and wage holy war.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the Islamic State "took leadership" of the oil field from Nusra Front, the official wing of al Qaeda in Syria.

A video posted on the Internet showed a group of armed men dressed in black outside what they said was the entrance to al-Omar oil field.

One fighter said they had not faced any resistance from Nusra Front and that they had captured the field on the fifth day of Ramadan, or Thursday.

"God is greatest and thanks to God. Islamic State! God is greatest!" the men chanted. It was not possible to independently verify the contents of the video.

EU Lifts Oil Embargo on Syria – Buys Directly from Al Qaeda
The U.S. has taken part in clandestine operations aimed at Iran and its ally Syria. A by-product of these activities has been the bolstering of Sunni extremist groups that espouse a militant vision of Islam and are hostile to America and sympathetic to Al Qaeda.... it is no accident that Al Qaeda has the weapons and cash to dominate the so-called “opposition,” nor a mystery as to how they’ve managed to seize much of Syria’s oil fields. It is also no accident that these very terrorists now stand to gain immensely by selling stolen oil to the European Union, in a bid to further increase their strength, capabilities, and reach, in an otherwise so-far unsuccessful bid to overthrow the Syrian government.

The EU and their US and British allies, now have yet another deep scar that will permanently disfigure their reputation, legitimacy, and international standing ad infinitum. For the people of the West, it is imperative that they identify the corporate-financier interests truly driving this conspiracy against the Syrian people and both boycott and permanently replace these interests. If not, they will inevitably, and in many cases already are, turning their attention, exploitation, and rackets inward onto their own...

NYT: "Nowhere in Rebel-Controlled Syria is There a Secular Fighting Force to Speak Of"

For the past two years the US, UK, France, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan, and Turkey have sent billions of dollars and thousands of tons of weapons into Syria along side known-terrorists from Libya, Chechnya, neighboring Lebanon, Jordan, and Iraq. In the Telegraph's article led, "US and Europe in 'major airlift of arms to Syrian rebels through Zagreb'," it is reported:

It claimed 3,000 tons of weapons dating back to the former Yugoslavia have been sent in 75 planeloads from Zagreb airport to the rebels, largely via Jordan since November

The story confirmed the origins of ex-Yugoslav weapons seen in growing numbers in rebel hands in online videos, as described last month by The Daily Telegraph and other newspapers, but suggests far bigger quan ies than previously suspected.

The shipments were allegedly paid for by Saudi Arabia at the bidding of the United States, with assistance on supplying the weapons organised through Turkey and Jordan, Syria's neighbours. But the report added that as well as from Croatia, weapons came "from several other European countries including Britain", without specifying if they were British-supplied or British-procured arms.

British military advisers however are known to be operating in countries bordering Syria alongside French and Americans, offering training to rebel leaders and former Syrian army officers. The Americans are also believed to be providing training on securing chemical weapons sites inside Syria.
    http://landdestroyer.blogspot.com/20...led-syria.html

The West intentionally and systematically funded and armed Al Qaeda to gain a foothold in Syria, then overthrow the Syrian government in an unprecedented sectarian bloodbath and subsequent humanitarian catastrophe, just as was planned years ago.

Juan Cole’s list of recent “disturbing” news items from Iraq begins with some major developments regarding the Kurds:

    1. Last Wednesday Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki angrily lashed out at the Kurds, accusing them of harboring the terrorists of the so-called ‘Islamic State.’ Since the Kurds have in fact fought the IS radicals, al-Maliki’s charge is hard to take seriously. Rather, it appears to be a sign of how angry he is that Kurdistan president Massoud Barzani is pressuring him to step down. I don’t think al-Maliki can get a third term without Kurdish support.
    2. Barzani responded that al-Maliki is “hysterical.” The Kurds then withdrew from al-Maliki’s cabinet, in which they had been his coalition partners. The ministries will likely go on running all right, but the move is symbolic of the break between al-Maliki and his erstwhile backers. Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, one of those who suspended participation, says it will be hard for the Kurds to work with al-Maliki unless he apologizes.

    3. On Friday, the Kurds seized two important oil fields in the Kirkuk region. Since their willingness to supply Turkey with petroleum seems to be one of the reasons Ankara has increasingly made its peace with Iraqi Kurdistan becoming independent, the Kurds are now in a position to remunerate Turkey even more generously for acquiescing in their national aspirations.
By seizing these oil fields, Keith Johnson fears, the Kurds risk antagonizing the Iraqi government and further escalating tensions between Baghdad and Erbil

dude no i don't want all jews or all muslims or all colored people dead

you really need to look up what national socialism is and stop believing the re ed crap they teach in american grade school. national socialists appreciate the different cultures and recognize their unique differences and want to preserve diversity through nationalistic ethnic based nation states. different cultures are not going to see eye to eye on everything and we see that forced integration and multiculturalism only leads to racism, the KKK, genocides, etc each people should have their own home INCLUDING israel.

i talk about the radical muslims because they really are bat insane and pose a serious threat to everyone.

Then what about the Nazis not finishing the Jews off? You stated something to this effect in earlier posts. And you are telling me Hitler did not think some cultures and or races were inferior and needed to be done away with?

never said that, it's not my belief and if i did then i was ing with you.

And you are telling me Hitler did not think some cultures and or races were inferior and needed to be done away with?
he did say that some races were inferior, although some of that was just propaganda to help restore a german sense of pride and nationalism promoting that they were superior. he didn't believe anyone needed to be done away with..the holocaust did not and could not have happened based on fact and historical evidence, look up the Madagascar Plan. You don't deport those who you are trying to exterminate. as the tide of the war changed, it was no longer feasible to continue the repatriation of the jews to palestine and many were stranded in the labor camps and died of starvation and disease but not intentionally. this was due to the allies intentionally targeting supply lines and trying to starve the germans out, in violation of international law. it's funny, only the germans actually observed those laws and we all know that the russians never signed the geneva convention. if hitler were really bat insane he would have resorted to chemical weapons but didnt because he himself had been gassed in ww1.

you ain't seen until ISIS starts gaining steam and becoming emboldened through real victories not these cheesy little pansy ass "terror attacks." these guys are funded by big oil money and fanatical as all ..arabs were great fighters for the Reich and a great many served in the SS, I KNOW for a fact what we're dealing with and the west is certainly playing with fire.

if the typical leftist doesn't wake up, they are literally going to find themselves hanging by their feet and gutted once they overrun europe. all that tolerance is cool whenever times are good...but these guys won't be as "tolerant" in return once they become the majority it's over for liberal degenerate leftist whitey.

2001 was 13 years ago, the movement has only grown since then. they're like a cancer, radiating them only makes them stronger and mutate you have to actually hit it strong enough actually knock it the out or they're just going to keep coming back stronger and stronger. al qaeda has never been able to accomplish what these guys have. they have better weapons, logistics, training, communication, and tactics than al qaeda. and europe is literally being eaten out from the inside..a trojan horse has breached our walls. the threat has only gotten bigger you're the one who is ignorant to real politics as I exist outside of the left/right paradigm i support the third position, neither right nor left and that is national socialism the only answer to our problems we face.

The Kurdish forces went on the offensive on Sunday after Islamic militants captured Shangal 200 kilometers west of Erbil.
SHANGAL—Kurdish Peshmerga forces have entered Shangal, said military officials, and they have cornered militants of the Islamic State in parts of the town.

Rudaw reporter in the area said that units from the 10,000-strong Peshmarga force who had encircled the town earlier in the day are now in the town center and try to rout the Islamic militants.

The Peshmerga were able to enter Shangal following a heavy bombardment of the Rahman and Nasir sectors where the militants had taken position.

Meanwhile, a large Peshmerga forces have made their way to the Shangal mountainside where thousands of Yezidi families have taken shelter.

Rudaw reporter says that the Peshmerga have made progress in their counteroffensive near Zumar where they intend to cut off the IS militants from retreating into Syria.

The IS are said to have demolished the Zumar bridge in anticipation of the Peshmerga advance.

The Kurdish forces went on the offensive on Sunday after Islamic militants captured Shangal 200 kilometers west of Erbil.

“We decided to go on the offensive and fight the terrorists to the last breath,” said Kurdistan Region President Massoud Barzani Monday afternoon. “We have ordered the Peshmerga to attack the terrorists and enemies of Kurdistan with all their power.”

Barzani said that the Kurdish forces “will not relinquish an inch of Kurdistan and we will defend our dear Yezidi brothers and sisters.”

Earlier in the day, Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki ordered the Iraqi air force to assist the Peshmerga in their fight against the IS militants.

According to Rudaw reporter in the region, Iraqi jets bombed militant positions in Shangal and Zumar today.

Unofficial sources told Rudaw that members of the Peoples Protection Units (YPG) have joined the Peshmerga fight against the Islamic militants. Ten Kurdish volunteer fighters were also reported to have reached Shangal from Turkey.
