Nice player to bang with Shaq and to weaken the Pacers by taking. The human cigar gets buried one deeper on the bench.
Dale Davis is on the verge of leaving the Indiana Pacers for the second time.

The popular veteran of nine-plus seasons with the Pacers is close to signing a two-year contract with Detroit.
The Pacers want to retain the free agent forward-center but can't compete financially with other offers.
"They can't match it," said Davis' agent, Chubby Wells, who declined to say what Davis has been offered. "They don't have any money."
Pacers CEO Donnie Walsh said he was unaware of offers Davis might have but confirmed his inability to compete financially.
"If he does (have an offer), there's not much I can do about it right now," Walsh said.
Davis played his first nine NBA seasons with the Pacers, then was traded to Portland for Jermaine O'Neal in 2000. He returned to the Pacers in February after he was waived by New Orleans, which acquired him in a trade with Golden State.
He averaged 6.9 points and 8.9 rebounds in 25 regular-season games for the Pacers last season, starting all of them.

No, he's the human "Victory" cigar.
Haven't read of any links suggesting this is anything more than a rumor. Our 1st choice is Finley and if we sign Davis that means no Finley unless Davis signs for the Veterans minimum. Unlikely.

Detroit have still 2 Wallace's, MacDyess, Darko and Maxwell at PF/C.
The 2 Wallace's and MacDyess desserve a lot of PT, Darko needs some PT and Maxwell was quite good during the SL.
So why Detroit wants to sign a PF/C while they are very thin at SG/SF ?(Hamilton and Prince have played too much last season)
cool, so if Finley signs with Miami the, Davis goes to Detroit and damon Jones goes to Cleveland and if Finley signs with Detroit Dale Davis goes to Cleveland.
Davis agrees to two-year contract

Veteran center Dale Davis and the Pistons agreed in principle on a two-year contract Monday afternoon.
Davis' agent, Chubby Wells, said the Pistons were tired of waiting for forward Michael Finley to make up his mind and decided to move on.
"Dale's really excited about the Pistons and we're glad to get something done," Wells said. "It's a good fit for both sides."
Finley still hasn't made up his mind, debating between the Heat, Suns, and Pistons. The offer to Davis takes the Pistons out of the running for Finley, as they do not have any more open roster slots.
Davis, 36, is expected to fill the reserve role vacated by Elden Campbell. Davis is 6-11 and 252 pounds, a durable center who has played most of his 15-year career with the Indiana Pacers.
He's averaged 8.4 points and 8.3 rebounds over his 1,020 NBA career games. He last played for the Pacers, signed as a playoff pickup last March.
The Pistons tried to get Davis last season as their playoff insurance, but he signed with the Pacers instead.
The Pistons like to stockpile big men, a policy unofficially called "Shaq insurance". The Pistons know, through winning experiences in the 2004 NBA Finals and 2005 Eastern Confernece Finals, that they need multiple big men to defend Heat center Shaquille O'Neal in the playoffs.
Wells and Davis received the contract offer from the Pistons and were going to review it Monday evening.
Wells expected Davis to sign the contract on Tuesday.

@ Shaq Insurance.
Actually, the Pistons need it for Spurs insurance. Running out of big men against SA is what cost them in Game 7.
Davis is indeed a tough, physical player. However when it comes to Shaq, he's overmatched and can't hold up against him in the post. Come to think of it - who can?
Shaq is clearly on the downside. Age, weight, injuries, and not keeping his body in top shape has cost him. His injuries come playoff time isn't coincidental, and unless he finds the fountain of youth, it will continue.
That's why he was only good in the first quarters against Det. Thats the sure sign of a fighter who has lost the gas in the tank. Like Tyson looking for the quick knockout because he can't last.
I think it had more to do with offense and lack of 3 pt shooters. Ben and Rasheed did as good a job on Duncan and Nazr for most of the series as I've seen anyone on Duncan.
I wouldn't be surprised to see the Pistons use the rest of their money to bring in either Spreewell or Derek Anderson.
Derek Anderson has already agreed to terms with the Rockets.I wouldn't be surprised to see the Pistons use the rest of their money to bring in either Spreewell or Derek Anderson.
Derek Andersonalready agreed with Houston besides i think Spree will prefer to take a full MLE than a lower offer from somewhere else, he needs to feed his family, lol.
Did not know that...well than edit: I wouldn't be surprised to see the Pistons spend the rest of their money to bring in Spreewell.
This question is VERY much on my mind today; I'm not sure whether to scratch my head or tear my hair out.
The article says that Davis will fill the reserve role vacated by Elden Campbell. Where did Campbell go? I thought Campbell was the best Shaq defender in the NBA.
Interesting idea, specially as darko wanted out at the beginning of summer...
I don't think it's official, but I recall seeing an interview with Elden Campbell last year, and he stated that last year would be his last. He had intimated several times that he was retiring after last season. Again, I don't know if he officially retired, but that's perhaps the reason the Pistons went after one more big body for teams like Miami and San Antonio.
As a Piston fan, I like the move for the short term. But, I don't like the move in general, because it will continue to stunt the growth of Darko Milicic. Sooner or later, the Piston management and coaching staff have to give the kid an opportunity to play to really evaluate his potential, and more important, his production. If his confidence isn't already gone, the signing of Dale Davis could very well push him over the edge and frustrate him to no end.
But, all of that is yet to be determined. We'll have to wait a few years to see if this was a prudent and wise move by Joe Dumars.
