Did they say how long he signed for?

They only had the LLE, I believe.

It will be interesting if the Spurs can get Van Exel now.

Derek Anderson and Stromile Swift is a pretty good offseason pull -- especially for not being under the cap.

Will it improve them? Perhaps, but these aren't the two most mentally sturdy guys on the planet.

I've lost track. Has anyone from the Spurs front office officially said they have an interest in NVE?

Houston really made things well this off-season. They had been doing thing great during the last 3 years.

Houston will be tougher to beat...but more because of the Stromile signing.

NVE is running out of higher money options. Isn't Denver still considering Nick?

Its called one being a team that choked in the first round, and the other a team that won the championship with no need to add to much but a center and a pg, maybe a sf.

What did you want them to do, sign and trade a bunch of guys, change up the chemistry and screw up the team??

One team had quite a bit to improve. The other has precious little room to improve.

Fact of the matter is, adding DA to Houston helps their bench very much. Add the same guy to San Antonio, you don't see a marked improvement (he doesn't bump any of the normal rotation guys).

    This is a good thing.

    Rockets get man in Anderson
Dogged pursuit pays off as guard agrees to contract
    By JONATHAN FEIGEN
    Copyright 2005 Houston Chronicle

Eight months after the Rockets thought they had Derek Anderson, they finally do.

Anderson, moved by the Rockets' long pursuit, agreed to a two-year contract, the second year at his option, with the Rockets on Sunday, Anderson's agent Tony Dutt said.

"He's coming here," said Dutt, who is based in Houston. "He's looking forward to the opportunity, a chance to start, to work to earn his minutes."

Anderson, a 6-5 guard, is expected to sign with the Rockets on Tuesday. The Rockets were able to offer him their smaller salary-cap exception, worth $1.67 million the first season, considerably less than many teams had offered. Anderson had narrowed his choice to the Rockets and Lakers.

But the Rockets had been close to landing Anderson in February when Anderson thought the Trail Blazers had agreed to send him to the Rockets for Maurice Taylor.

    Loyalty the word
Anderson, 31, who wears the word "Loyalty" on everything from clothing to jewelry to a tattoo on his back, was swayed by the Rockets' long efforts to bring him to Houston.

"I think it (the Rockets' long-held interest in Anderson) definitely played into it," Dutt said.

Anderson will earn the $18.84 million left on his contract with the Trail Blazers. But because Dutt was able to get Portland to waive the NBA's "set off" provision when releasing a player — the formula used to reduce a team's financial obligation when a player signs with another team — Anderson would have received the full value of the offers he received. That made the difference in the Rockets' offer and other offers more significant.

"It wasn't about the money," Dutt said. "It's about a system that works for him, to get a chance to compete on a high level again and be on a winning team."

    McKie to Lakers
Former 76ers guard Aaron McKie agreed to terms with the Lakers, accepting half the Lakers' midlevel exception, $2.5 million, that Los Angeles offered Anderson soon after he was released by Portland on Aug. 3 in the NBA's first luxury-tax amnesty cut.

Anderson has averaged 13.1 points on 41.1 percent shooting and 34.3 percent 3-point shooting in eight seasons with the Cavaliers, Spurs, Clippers and Trail Blazers.

With the Rockets, Anderson could earn playing time at shooting guard, small forward or point guard.

I don't see how anyone's impressed with signing Anderson. A perennial china doll who shoots 41% is subtraction by addition in my book.

DA has made it pretty clear that he wants a short term deal so he can prove his worth and go for a longer term, higher priced contract. That means that he'll be looking to get his stats and if he doesn't get the PT or shots he likely won't be happy.

DA's a good addition for the price.

He's not that great at this point in his career, but he adds aomething Houston lacked.

The Rockets are starting to figure this player acquisition thing out. Their dumb fans will keep talking about SS's and DA's "potential" to be All-Stars or whatever, while Carroll Dawson knows full well they don't have to be. They just fill roles and plug holes.

Houston is flourishing now. They are on the rise, and soon will be the Spurs' chief challengers out West. The rivalry will be reborn, and we shall hate Houston as they hate us. CD knows what he's doing. Since Rudy T left, there's been nobody banging on management to give role players ridiculous contracts out of "loyalty."

Oh wait, there's that word again. Hey, somebody let DA know that Rudy doesn't work for the Rockets anymore, will ya?

DA should provide great moral support sitting behind the bench in a suit and crutches.
