SAN ANTONIO — Count Tim Duncan among supporters of embattled Atlanta Hawks general manager Danny Ferry.
Duncan on Wednesday defended Ferry, his former teammate on the Spurs, against charges of racism after his use of racially charged comments during a conference call with the Hawks ownership group in June. Ferry has since taken a leave of absence from his post in Atlanta.
“Knowing Danny, he’s not what everybody’s saying about him,” Duncan told another former teammate, Antonio Daniels, during a radio interview with the San Antonio radio station KZDC. “He’s not a racist.”
Duncan played three seasons with Ferry from 2000-2003. After retiring as a player, Ferry also spent separate stints in the Spurs’ front office.
Speaking to The Hardline with Daniels and Ari Temkin, Duncan acknowledged Ferry made a mistake in describing Hawks free-agent target Luol Deng as having “a little African in him.” But Duncan also said Ferry shouldn’t be defined by the incident.
“We both know Danny,” Duncan told Daniels. “Danny is a jokester. He plays around. … For it to have gone this far, it’s unfortunate because he’s not that kind of person.
“He said something absolutely wrong and he regrets it. He’s not a racist. I know him well enough to feel comfortable saying that.”

He's safe. ESPN/Media is too busy trying to get a rope around Goodell's throat to pay attention to Ferry who should thank his lucky stars that Rog stepped into the breach just when Danny needed it.
But, Goods ain't Sterling and Media will play gettin' his lynching done.
Is also unfortunate this came out close to the Sterling BS so yeah people will immediately jump in the he's a racist wagon.
