Few have said this, even in the aftermath of the 2014 le, but I think I've never been prouder as a fan of the Spurs than I was with their Game 7 performance in 2013. They lost, yeah, but the way you deal with adversity speaks volumes to your real character and that team got its heart ripped out and chose to demonstrate its character by putting forward an unbelievable effort less than 2 nights later. The 2014 le was just the period on the end of a sentence that started with that Game 7 effort.

I usually don't like Adande, but that was the best write up of his that I've ever read. And not just because it's a positive article about the Spurs, but because if the message, Pop's quotes, and the fact that it's just really written.

Great article. Pop is definitely to be credited for his accomplishments in the sport, but I think his real worth comes from being an all around intelligent and kind person.

What are the chances of having the perfect combination of Pop, Tim, and David jump-starting the franchise's culture into what it is today? Just another write up on how lucky we spursfans are.

Wow even reading that hurt tbh it's still hard rememberin 2013.

Imagine if we didn't win it last year... We would never recover.

I'll never forget my feeling of dread when we lost game 6 last year. I knew we would lose it all right then. What's great is that the biggest meltdown in SpursTalk history is logged here too on the boards for all of history.

But luckily, I'm over it because of 2014. I don't think we would have won last year if we didn't lose like we did the year before.

Good article, but the less I think about 6. the better.

That's the whole point of the article, tbh. It's so difficult for us as fans to think back and remember those moments. It still hurts... Imagine how much more difficult it was for the Spurs. They could have given up completely after that soul-crushing defeat, but instead they came back and put up a valiant effort in game 7 and came up just a bit short. They showed some serious mental toughness.

I actually didn't quit after game 6. It was a horrible, horrible loss, I sat there for hours after the game thinking about it, but I didn't concede the series or thought we didn't have a chance to win it. I expected the Spurs to put everything on the line and go for it. It they had of given up, I would have lost a lot of respect for them. Even though we didn't win game 7, I was happy with the effort they put in and them never giving up throughout the whole game.

I pretty much felt like Pop after the game and series. The character they showed in game 7 a couple of days later after that game 6 loss was tremendous.

I couldn't watch game 6 live. Was on a business trip and when i watched the replay of game 6, i knew right there and then that we let the championship slip.

Nobody knew the series was over after game 6. If you thought you did, you were wrong, because the Spurs were a Duncan layup from tying game 7 at the end. So unless you saw that coming, you didn't know .

While it sucked to lose in 2013 the way we did, that just made the triumph in 2014 that much sweeter. Sports story of the year, IMHO.

It's nice to see a media prick write up an honest and earnest article like this. Pop is a bizarre individual and makes Spurs fans nuts with his stubbornness and wizardry, but the professional at ude he has instilled in the franchise is extremely admirable. These guys are the very best of what professional sports can be. It's damn impressive. It's great to be proud of a winning team, not just for the sake of winning but for who they are and how hard they try.
