it's too bad fin is a proven scorer. with more minutes brown could light it up but minutes are hard to find. we don't have time to wait for brown to emerge into a player we all know he can be.
Very happy with this signing and I believe Spurs should stop here. . Why trade youth away unless they are concerned about the injury? Plus I have not seen Finley step up enough in the past in big games to make me want to gamble on him.
Lost in all this = is that Beno will probably play some SG now as well.
Spurs have the offense pretty well covered IMO and in my opinion a healthy Brown is better defensively than Finley from what has been shown so far in their careers.

Fin wouldn't see much PT behind Manu and Brent.
I bet he wants to start, so no Spurs.
theres a good point here..most of the bench is (would be with finley in the list)near 30 or past 30. scared about injuries
C Oberto
PF Horry
SF Finley
SG Barry
PG Van Exel
C Nesterovic
PG Udrih
injuries are part of the game and can happen at 20 or 30. we don't have a choice about that. it is what it is. some might agure that being over 30 is a good thing.
What does that inequality have to do with anything? The Spurs can still get MF in addition to NVE. So I would think most would agree that Finley + Van Exel > Brown.Brown + Van Exel > Finley
I thought Brown was going to sign with Utha......
Finley + Van Exel > Brown + Van Exel
Spurs > The rest of the NBA
i agree about that, and i dont wanna jinx the team![]()
as long as the new adittions arent carrying injuries, manu and oberto hve sufferd a lot of pounding over the years
you will always have some sort of injury if you play in the nba, that is a given. you just hope that it is something that you can play thru. hopefully you didn't jinx them. had to bring up the word injury.
How about NVE + Finley + GRob? That would be a great perimeter bench for the next couple of seasons.
What about minutes guys? Now that Van Exel is here, he'll see some minutes as a SG along with PG of course. He'll probably get around 20 a night IMO. I'm not sure that Finley and Van Exel can both come of the bench along with Barry. Not enough minutes, I think.
Maybe it's better to sign just Brown and have a rotation of Van Exel as backup PG, Brown and Barry as our main backup swing players. Enough minutes for everyone.
Finley looks nice on paper but will it work out as everyone wants?
I'm a Finley fan...
so I disagree... yep.
I think minutes will come with match ups, injuries, dog house, many factors.
Minutes in the NBA aren't cut and dry.
Above all, FIRST of all, Fin would have to show Pop he can and will learn and play defense, a change in his game he may not want to undertake at his age, vs playing his usual role of offense-only for PHX or MIA.
It's almost ridiculous how far ahead of the NBA the Spurs are.
I know.... I can see the rest of the GM's watching every move we attempt, and going for it.
Taking notes n .
And yet they'll still never quite get it.![]()
But they could get their 2006 NBA Championship Gear early...Seems like a foregone conclusion! This whole potential dynasty thing goes back to a few yrs ago...When DRob went to Hawaii to speak to Timmy...Remember?
Thats what they have been doin over the years, if you have followed this offseason, all the 1st preference players the spurs targeted have all been sign by other teams, and to our luck we waited....and waited, then out of nowhere a player that we had a low % of attractin to come play for us, decides to sign with us.
If we do get finley then this is the best move offseason then the heat had.
RC and Pop continue to impress me year in and year out. I just can't believe how "stealthy" they can be. I didn't even know Van Excel was a consideration. We get the proven, veteran backup guard that is so sorely needed and we get him for little or no money, not to mention no long term commitment. Pure genius!
Im thinking van exel and brown IS gonna happen since i think finley will make up his mind in the next couple of hours on where hes gonna go, and i dont think its S.A....
If Finley is thinking about winning championships then the Spurs are just as appealing, if not moreso than the Heat. In Miami he is going to have to fight with a bunch of other guys for a role and it's not like the Heat have proven that they have a championship winning formula.
Nice. I like that.
