The whole article is too long to be posted here on SpursTalk, but you should really take the time to read the whole piece. It's an absolutely blistering account on Adrian Wojnarowski and how he gets his scoops.

Whatever the view of his ethics, there's little doubt that Woj has been the most plugged-in of the NBA reporters and continuously offers the public the scoops that it craves.

I don't know that Woj is a great journalist, but he has been exceptional at cultivating sources and gathering breaking news from them.

I don't read much of his work beyond his tweets; when it comes to actual reporting, I much prefer someone like Stein.

I certainly don't think Woj is the best NBA journalist out there. He is clearly the most clued in scoop producer in business, but the best journalist is clearly Zach Lowe. Lowe combines a maniacal ability to analyse games (in any other reiteration/reincarnation, he might have been a NBA coach) and a love for the Xs and Os of basketball with a good writing ability. It is clear he has garnered respect for these abilities and he is getting default sources from powerful NBA mandarins, coaches, GMs, etc as well.

The New Republic article's important finding is what we should know is ripe in "investigative/scoop journalism". Everything comes for a price. Inside information is not so much a premium if the person who reveals it can serve an agenda for the source. And Woj seems to be an expert at this.

Woj's reporting style, and the fact that it's so successful, is a mere reflection of the times we're living in, where breaking news and social media go hand in hand and is a much more popular driver than long form articles. It's the evolution of journalism, for good or bad. Generally speaking, his reporting is no less accurate than most every other outlet. There's also a story to be told about the "old guard" of journalism which finds itself threatened by the same social media, analytics, etc, but that's probably a different topic for a different article.

I see Lowe as more of an analyst than a journalist (though he has started to exploit what he learns from sources and coupled it with his excellent writing to do more reporting on league issues).

But however you characterize Lowe, he's without peer at what he does.

Johnny Ludden & Jack Mcculum are much better than Stein tbh. Ludden's SA Express News articles were some of the best articles.

Woj is a mixed bag, tbh. He's usually top-notch when it comes to reporting breaking news on Twitter, but his long-form writing is usually awful. He's arguably the most biased reporter in the NBA. His scathing LeBron articles after he went to the Heat were pathetic, dude sounded like a scorned lover... meanwhile, he stays on the Nets' for some reason

His throwdown on Stern after his fining the Spurs in December 2012 was epic.

    Read it here: http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nba--da...194828970.html

He's always remained upbeat about the Spurs.

I'll never forget the blistering article Woj wrote on the Spurs during the 07 Spurs-Suns series. It's the only negative article I've ever read on the Spurs organization in my 7 years of being a Spurs fan.

Woj loves Kobe and hates Lebron. He doesn't even try to hide it. He's not so much a sports journalist as he is a gimmicky, opinionated beat-writer. When it comes to actual sports analysis, he's proven that he doesn't know much.
