It's ok to love Tony Parker

We are close to Spam folks. This means the player fans and the spurs haters have at most a few weeks to get their energy out before the spurs get down to business.

We've spent a lot of energy debating how bad Tony Parker has played this year and after careful calculations i have determined that he is scientifically the worst. The french hitler of basketball.

But he's still the spurs starting point guard until further notice. He is still the best point guard in modern Spurs history. He is third best player in the last 15 years and was the best spurs player for several years. As has been pointed out, point guard led teams are disfavored in the playoffs. So of course Tony did not bring a championship by himself in the Pre Kawhi Duncan bad knee years. No player can win in the playoffs without ample supporting talent.

Anyway, After Parker it's going to take awhile to get comparable talent. Of the big 3 he is by far the easiest to replace but still not easily replaceable for small market team. If you want to be a Spurs hater, you will love the post Duncan era. Until then show some class you dumb s.

Now i want to address a dumb argument that floats around. That tony's contract is an albatross that will ruin the spur's rebuilding plans. If the spurs go into a full rebuild we don't need cap space. Parker can get the checks like TOSB Nash. Meanwhile, the spurs will collect draft picks, young prospects, and try out euro talent. Once Tony's contact is off the books the draft picks and young players will either form a strong enough core and absorb the spurs cap space, or entice a mid market free agent to sign.

no, the main problem with Tony is that with just one elite player (big K), the spurs have almost no chance of retooling through free agency. It was never a great chance. Maybe Kawhi will evolve into a legit #2 and that will entice a mid market FA to sign. I doubt it, but we'll see.

Anyway, this is an off season argument. I just want idiots to stop saying Parker torpedoed the rebuilding effort. This is flat false.

Looking at the spurs now you might assume there's something personal because they've lacked energy and focus. To sum up, i think the "Team Cancer Parker" meme is unsupported and should be retired pending more evidence. The truth is the spurs suck because of collective fatigue, aging of their stars, multiple injuries, no stable lineups.

i just feel that when Tony got divorced this board didn't fully turn on him. When he said the spurs were done we didn't turn on him. When he got glass in his eye we didn't turn on him.
