Not a war thread just an honest question over the last three years (before his preseason injury) Paul George was a 'consensus' top 10 player in the league, heck some would say top five or just outside of it. Was this a media creation seeing that the Pacers were the closest thing to compe ion that the Heat had in the East during their run, and they were trying to build up a narrative? Young ascending stud able to take on LBJ or was he truly that good? I ask because KL has shown me can check LBJ just as well if not better than PG ever has. Sure PG has a higher scoring average but he would since he has to carry an offensively challenged Pacer team while KL does not have to 'carry' the Spurs on offense. I heard on San Antonio radio last week the topic, is KL a top 10 player? The consensus was no but is the gap between KL and PG that great? Or is PG not a top 10 player either (meaning never was) and was just a media creation to create conversation. For me they seem to be very similar players, PG's game on offense is more developed but to me that seems more a result of opportunity than ability. To me there is no real gap in talent so for me if KL isn't a top 10 talent in this league and I am not saying that he is, then Paul George isn't either. Just looking for some objective agendaless opinions on the topic. I just recall PG being the next big thing but KL definitely not being top 10, and I don't see that big of a difference between them then again it might be a matter of out of sight, out of mind and I am forgetting how good PG was.

George had the hype while Kawhi lived up to it.

Paul George had eastern conference hype: more tv appearances, easier post season compe ion.

He and kawhi are probably the same. Before kawhi went hard on LeBron it was Paul George who was the supposed LeBron stopper.

I don't know, back when George was allegedly top 10 kawhi was still unproven. But if be pretty certain that 5 and the lack of growth by George (on account of leg amputation) puts kawhi ahead. But both are 10-20

George is closer to Green than Leonard in regards to his rivalry with Lebron. Paul and Danny are both friends with James, while Leonard seems like a more traditional rival. I don't think Danny's friendship hurts his ability to guard Lebron (it probably enhances it), but it does seem to hamper Paul.

I love Kawhi and obviously he is better than George.

But George is not all hype. Far from it. The dude is legit.

wasn't questioning if PG is legit I think KL is the truth and is in the same league as PG so he is too, just more about the narrative that one is all that, and the other isn't when they appear similar.

I'd take pre-All Star break Paul George from last year over Kawhi this year tbh. He sort of fell off as the season went on though.

I think they're pretty close in terms of their impact. PG is a better scorer/ball-handler/offensive player in general, but Kawhi is a better rebounder and defender.

You could predict Paul George falling off last year because all the guy did was shoot long jumpers which was all well and good when they're falling but when the threes and longs twos stopped falling PG had nothing to fall back on. His slashing game is mediocre, midrange game is almost non-existent and he has no post game. I've never found him that impressive. He's a good perimeter defender but unlike Kawhi can get abused on the low block.

I'll take Kawhi in the Finals last year than any type of player George will ever be tbh

I mean if you want to use a 3 game sample size as your basis for judging players, go ahead.

obviously Kawhi is one of the best young Finals performer ever..

I mean I won't be able to name more than 5 current players with Kawhi's playoff dominance.

Kawhi has been a monster in the last three years in the post season. Thanks for becoming a spurs fan last year bro..

Spurs need new fans for business.

Interesting thought. I think of it being a bit apples and oranges specifically because of the offensive roles being so different.

I enjoy seeing Kawhi developing his offensive bag of tricks, but not many plays were run for him last year. That make his outstanding Finals performance all the more incredible. Hope PG is able to return from that accident....the worst I can remember seeing with the exception of that college kid around the same time.

That injury was the worst that could happen to him and to the league. East would have been so much more interesting. Imagine with the emergence of the Hawks, newly formed Cavs, and the Pacers gunning for that championship.

I like Paul George, but the LeBron-hating media overrated him a bit because they were rooting for anyone to beat Miami

I would say Lebron centric b/c for every Skip Bayless that is unrealistically critical there is another that on their knees servicing the 'king'. There are legions of both types.

Paul George put up 19/7.5/5 in the 2013 playoffs, and 22/7.5/3.5 in last year's playoffs. He's shown that he can play well in the playoffs too.
