Those aren't bad percentages. Remember that we are only 1 of 30 teams, and at least 5 teams (along with their fans) believe they have a legitimate chance of winning it all.
I was just on the ESPN NBA frontpage and noticed that the Poll asking if the Spurs would repeat as champs is now at 51% yes and 49% no. How the is that. With the signings of NVE and Finley, plus the fact that we lost virtually nobody, how can 49% of the country hate so much? I know we aren't a lock, but who did better than us in the off-season that could legitimately have a chance to knock us off?

Maybe David Stern conspired with NBA officials to be sure that the results would at least be close.
Or then again, maybe fans outside of San Antonio weren't blown away by the Spurs up-and-down performance during the Finals and think that other teams have improved enough to give them some trouble.
Well, if you used ESPN as your primary source of sports news would you expect the Spurs to repeat? , would you be aware that San Antonio had a basketball team? IIRC the Spurs championship win was even the top headline the day after they won. They had some big picture hyping their NBA draft preview.
You'll notice that Arizona, Florida, Indiana and Michigan are heavy in the "no" column. Which makes sense.
Given that SA is 0-2 in the repeat department, doesn't seem that low ...
51% thinking the Spurs will repeat is a huge percentage. Stop inferioritycomplexing.
who cares! There's still 82 games to be played and the Spur's hold all the cards.
Polls!
Waaa, Waaaa, Waaa....What the are you complaining about Big Pimp 21? Spurs won...why do you care if Joe Blow in Pensacola thinks you won't repeat. Suck it up and be proud that your team walked away with the trophy. Besides I can think of about 3 teams teams that could win the Championship next year just as easily as the Spurs.
Not surprising. If the poll question was 'Will Miami win it all?' it would probably be at 75% yes. But those are the breaks when you are a Spurs fan.
'tis better to win than to be loved, to modify a somewhat famous observation.
'must be a red-state, blue-state thing.![]()
Now that you put it in those terms....
It doesn't surprise me. There aren't that many people outside of S.A who like the Spurs.
I'm waiting for Dan to drop in with an article detailing the indictments that have come down against certain ESPN employees for their role in attempting to rig the results of this particular poll.
Are you serious? I'm not crying, and I am very proud of our team. I was just making an observation and wanted to know what the rest of the board thought. I thought that was the point of a discussion board. If you would like, though, I will post a thread about something that has been talked about repeatedly and beaten to death.
amen. 100 years from now, all history will reflect is who won, not who was more hyped.'tis better to win than to be loved,
Perspective, dude. 100 years from now, nobody will give a flying flip about the 2005-2006 NBA season. Does anyone remember who won the 1905 World Series (without Google)?
I am waiting for that repeate of Det-SA in the Finals. We will see what team's upgrades helped the most. No more Detroit playing 7 guys for the entire season.![]()
THose are actually great numbers for us. The season hasn't even started and this is the time fans are most confident of their teams. And we all know 90% of all NBA fans are NOT Spurs fans.
the polls, the spurs will repeat
Pfft......Alaska.
did ya'll see the map?
in agreement with foofida.. whats up with Alaska voting no?? I understnad Michigan, Florida and Arizona.... but Alaska?
bas s.
Damn Democrats...
Yep......just ask the 2004-2005 Detroit Pistons
(Sorry, couldn't resist a little trash talking!)
Do Spurs fans have an inferiority complex? I don't know, maybe.
51% is a large percentage for the reasons others have mentioned.
The fact is that the Spurs will never get the national media attention that the Knicks and Lakers receive. They could win the next 10 championships in a row, and Dan LeRe would still be up Shaq's @$$.
Do you really care what the hacks at ESPN think? In all fairness, is it still frustrating at times? Sure, it ticks me off, and the Spurs aren't even my favorite team. (ESPN totally ignores the Pacers as well, but they haven't even made it to the Finals recently.) It mostly upsets me because ESPN has gone into the toliet, yet has driven most of the regional sports networks in the midwest out of business. Bleecchhh!
At any rate, don't sweat it. The Spurs are virtually a lock in the current, diluted NBA. Name even one other team that doesn't have a glaring defect in its starting 5.
