With the FA disaster now happening for the Lakers because of Kobe's presence I would like to ask Laker fans how long do you think this guy will continue to play? Honestly I don't think this guy will retire until he can literally no longer walk and has to sit in a wheel chair.

I didn't just speak to him because I don't exist, but he said "till I'm not the highest paid player in the league"

    [Not Laker fan]

    I expect: after 2017
    Wouldn't be shocked: after 2018

2 more seasons if he keeps having season ending injuries
3 more seasons if he is relatively healthy

Probably til 40 or 41. Kobe will wheel himself out there on a wheelchair if necessary to chuck his way toward Kareem's record.

Actually it's a blessing in disguise imho. Kobe's presence makes it nearly impossibly for them Lakers to piss away money for overrated role players, although it means the Lakers are gonna miss the playoffs for a few more years, it's good thing in the long term because they managed to avoid such ty contracts like Rondo, Carroll, Mathews etc...

Kobe can still lead and should. He needs to find another spot to occupy. Another comfort zone for himself and the team. He can lead by example, deed and words. He can still be abrasive, but, he must be constructive. He can't lose himself to this transition. I hope he's contemplating this "change" - this transition. He did the past. Did it his way, succeeded and failed, like everyone else before him and the ones that come after. It's time now, the right time, never righter than now to take stock of himself and surrender to life and it's inevitability. He does not have to retire. He must change.
