SJax was successful? at best, only marginally. maybe a little smarter (super-dumb to want $10M in '03 from Spurs, got $1M from ATL), a couple more RB/game, really nothing else.
...playing with the Spurs for couple years and then going elsewhere.
With the amount of personnel changes this off season, it got me wondering who have been the most successful after leaving the Spurs. Maybe Stephen Jackson and George Hill? Can you think of any others?

John Paxson....3 rings with the Bulls...not overwhelming stats but key cog in the backcourt with Jordan for years there. Championship shot in Game 6 1993 finals vs. Suns. Nice solid career.
We haven't had any real superstars leave, just role players. And Spurs are good talent evalutors, so none of their former players went on to be all-stars. Of the current crop that are leaving, I see Cojo with the most upside. I think Splitter will be sneaky good in Atlanta if he stays healthy.
I would say Hedo and George Hill.

Sure SJax was successful related to the criteria. There just haven't been many former Spurs that have been successful when they left the team.
Forgot about Hedo, too bad he didn't play as well as a Spur. Good choice with Beno. I forgot what playoff series it was, but after he got the ball stolen from him on like three consecutive possessions while bringing the ball up the court, I thought his NBA days were numbered.

I wouldn't be surprised if these two are at the top of the list in a couple years.
we have had very limited players who were good/great come to the spurs and fizzle out and then never return to where they were. (RJ, Derek Anderson, Dominique wilkens etc). look at guys like gary neal and roger mason...after they left they were not heard from again. even Malik rose who was pretty decent on the Spurs couldnt even get on the court for the Knicks.
as far as talent that was scouted by the Spurs, i would say george hill is probably the best bet.

hedo was good before the spurs as a kings bench player... and he was good afterwards on orlando as an all-star caliber player
That's true only if you completely ignore his stats. After averaging about 12/game with the Spurs he averaged over 18 w/ Atlanta, signed a big contract with Indiana where he averaged over 18/game for defensive-minded team then went to GS where he averaged over 20/game for 3 years including making some huge shots to take down the #1 seeded Mavs in the PO. He made the totally right call turning down the Spurs' offer. He bet on himself and won big. He is hands down the most successful ex-Spur.
Rod Sttrickland had a very long and successful career after he left the Spurs.
Spurs keep the most talented players.
what ever happened to Speedy Claxton? after bailing out Parker in 03 he disappeared.
