Good for Bush. He's been talking with Blanco and Nagin and got an earful, I bet.

Bush Takes Responsibility for Failures in Storm Response
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Bush said Tuesday that ''I take responsibility'' for failures in dealing with Hurricane Katrina and said the disaster raised broader questions about the government's ability to respond to natural disasters as well as terror attacks.
''Katrina exposed serious problems in our response capability at all levels of government,'' Bush said at joint White House news conference with the president of Iraq.
''To the extent the federal government didn't fully do it's job right, I take responsibility,'' Bush said.
The president was asked whether people should be worried about the government's ability to handle another terrorist attack given failures in responding to Katrina.
No it's political. Anything he does/says is political. The point is that he's admiting there are issues that need to be resolved.
Now, do I have faith in our government to streamline a beaucracy into an effective responder? I'm not going to hold my breath on that one.
Hey, lying then asking for forgiveness worked for another president.
That'd kind of be like a pot/kettle thing, don't you think? They should probably be the last 2 people on the planet telling anyone a damn thing.![]()
I'm looking forward to the headline at Drudge. "Im Sorry" in huge letters underneaath Bush making a sad face. Gotta love Drudge.
Great move, political or other wise.
Good call Rove.
Kudos to the President.
I don't think this was a Rove move at all. I think this was George Bush being himself. I don't agree with him on much at all, but he comes across as a man with whom a handshake means something.
It had to be done. PR-move or not, the country is angry and divided right now. We can have months of Republican-President-and-Supporters vs. Democratic-Governor-and-Supporters or each party can take responsibility for their failings and work to improve future disaster plans.
Same here. I think Rove is in a time-out after not advising Bush to ditch the vacation sooner than he did.
Nagin and Blanco have no room to talk, but yes they have done their share of ing.
Now those two clowns need to admit their own failures in this debacle. I doubt that will ever happen though.
Nagin bugged out to Dallas lol..
Why didn't he setup shop in Baton Rouge?
Seems to me living in Dallas would not help getting N.O. back up to snuff...
EDIT: Yea Bush glad he stepped up ... I think his failure was appointing Brownie.... but he's on the game now.

And the sheepel will follow.
Only political novices would think that this wasn't a Karl Rove move. Have the President accept responsibility, but don't get into too many specifics, there's enough blame to go around. We've muddied the water enough through out media shills. Nevermind that the administration has been patting itself on the back for it's prompt hurricane reaction as recently as yesterday.
President Bush was very happy with himself today as he told reporters that he had pre-signed emergency declarations in anticipation of the big storm coming.
Bush: "Which is by the way, extraordinary."![]()
So he's taking the obvious political course. Big deal.
Welcome to my POV.Now, do I have faith in our government to streamline a beaucracy into an effective responder? I'm not going to hold my breath on that one.
Well, there have been dozens of times when people fail to take the best obvious course.
@ welcome to my POV. Yes, ever the pioneer, Marcus.
More effective than the State and Local Govs of LA? It already is.
I'd bet money that he ran this past Rove.
Not that there is anything wrong with that.
But that's just me.
I think it's ironic that Manny elects to rip Bush supporters for supporting a guy that he thinks just did something praiseworthy...Shouldn't you be calling out those that think Bush is evil incarnate? It's they who need to be doing the admitting they were wrong...
I don't think Bush supporters support him under the belief that he won't step up to the plate....
WOW! Damned if you do and damned if you don't. Way to go Dan. What would please you......Bush's death????? Don't answer you loser!
wow! He takes blame for a hurricane catastrophy but doesn't accept ing up for invading Iraq a country with NO WMD'S? After he and his mignons fed the country of WMDs? 1900 and counting,Mr President.
