According to past public statements made by his father, legal opinions and do entation currently available, Rafael (Ted) Cruz was likely born of 2 Canadian citizens in Calgary back in December of 1970.

Becoming a Canadian citizen doesn't automatically means you renounce your US citizenship... Canada allows you to retain your US citizenship and become a dual citizen.
I don't know if Ted's mom ever renounced her US citizenship, but the notion that because somebody acquired Canadian citizenship automatically means you lost US citizenship is incorrect.
