It's easy for us to say that after what the Front office has done to improve the team's chances of repeating this season, we are indeed the team to beat . However, we still need to support this team as the "walk the talk" and get that 4th le. So who do you think are the top 3 threats to our mission?

    My take :

1)Pistons = They've buffed up their lineup with the addition of Davis. Davis and Mcdyess make the perfect subs for the Wallaces.

2)Mavs = We do have their long time starter Michael Finley but give their lineup a second look and you'll see that they have Christie,Stackhouse,Daniels and Howard who could more than make up for what he did.

3)Rockets = Yao and Swift can give Nazr and Tim some problems if they could get their act together. STill, I have faith in Timmy and he as a far better player than both.

Forget Miami, I think their overrated this year!

I cant believe how much people overrate the Mavs - Christie (no O min D), Stack (washed up never was), Daniels (good rookie yr then ), Howard (who?)
dallas doesnt even have a real floor leader

    1) Detroit
    2) Indy or Heat
    3) Housto

I dont know why people are giving stackhouse a bad rep... hes one of the better small forwards in the league. He can score both in the post and from outside and he plays good D.

houston will be scary...next year but especially in 2 years. they will have done some clean up in the back court and if the management does it correctly. i think this is the team improving the most with spurs.

Christie is actually a better offensive player than most people think.
Daniels had his appendix operated on and had a right ankle problem.
Stack was great for Dallas when he was healthy.
Howard who!? What the do you mean by Howard who. Howard was the one who gave Peja and Ray Allen problems last year and he and Terry wasted Houston in the 7th game against the Mavs.

Seriously, before you make a comment, kindly think hard about what you're gonna write about. I don't like 'em, but their dangerous.

I have a funny feeling that a sleeper team will emerge from the West (ala Sonics last year) and give the spurs a run for their money... Ihave an inkling it might be either the jazz or the grizz maybe even the nuggets....

but as for the threats for the Spurs -- I agree with Duncanfan that the Mavs and Rockets will be tough -- that 3rd one I predict will be one of the 3 I mentioned beforehand.

As for Miami or Indy -- well we won't have to worry about them till the finals hopefully

No one has mentioned the Suns. I know the loss of Joe Johnson and Quentin Richardson was a blow, but they are still prime. I loved watching their games. Especially the WCF. Miami is loaded and Detroit will again be tough. Can't wait.

In the West, I think the SACRAMENTO KINGS have a less spectacular team than in the past, but one that is much more balanced too. Peja and Shareef are similar forwards (6-9 combo forwards who are bigger than most small forwards and quicker than most power forwards). Defensively, they may have some problems, but on offense, the two of them create a lot of mismatch problems for most teams.

Bonzi Wells can be volatile at times, but brings athleticism, creativity, and explosiveness to the offense that had been missing with Doug Christie. I've always liked Mike Bibby, and Brad Miller is at the very least a solid center. Kenny Thomas and Brian Skinner are very good reserve players. And, Jason Hart was a great pick-up as back-up PG. If either Francisco Garcia or Kevin Martin can give them energy off the bench, I think the Kings are as deep as they have every been.

The Kings might not be able to hang with the Spurs, but I think they are as good as any other team in the West. And, they might end up being a serious threat come playoff time.

The Kings are gonna be real solid down low, but they have NO ONE to spell Bibby/Bonzi/Peja.

Maybe they dont need someone, since 4/5 is packed.

Utah or Denver could be big surprises, but not true threats to the le. Obviously Flip is not the head coach that LB was but with the same core talent that went to the finals twice the Pistons are certainly in the thick of things. The Pacers might be in the mix if they can keep healthy, mentally and physically, but that remains to be seen. The Mavs and Rockets are both big scary question marks in my mind. Both teams looked exceptional at times going down the stretch. The Rockets definitely got better in the offseason and the Mavs, while losing Finley, might night miss him too much if their key guys can stay healthy. People seem to forget that they managed to consistently win with one of the most injury plagued rosters in the league last year, and with the team under AJ for a full season who knows what they can do?

There's going to be a lot of good teams out there this year who will give the Spurs a run for their money, but I'm still picking our boys for a repeat.

I think Houston will be a team that will give San Antonio some problems. They gave the Spurs some headaches last season and that was without Swift. Swift is nowhere close to being a PF that Tim is, however, he is very talented. The guy can jump out of the gym. Denver is going to be good again. Let's not forget that they had the best record after the All-Star break. They kept their main guys and added Earl Watson who to me is a very good PG. I would say that Denver, Houston, and Utah will give the Spurs the most problems. However, the only threat to the Spurs are injuries and themselves. They have to stay healthy and not go through the season thinking they are going to win the le again just because they added players like Finley and Van Exel.

1 - TD or Manu injury
    2 - Bad team chemistry
3 - Bad free throw shooting

Mavs are way overrated and I look forward to kickin' their ass. , we can simply unleash Finley and let him go wild.

Let's not write off PHX, they should still be a formidable challenge this year.

    1. PHX
    2. HOU
    3. DET

    Honorable mention:
    MIA
    IND
