WSJ changes under Murdoch
A PEJ examination of the paper’s page 1 coverage from 2007 through June 2011 finds some clear shifts in direction.
The study looked at front-page coverage of the Journal and by way of comparison, the New York Times from 2007-2011.
Under the Australian-born media magnate, coverage has clearly moved away from what had been the paper’s core mission under previous ownership—covering business and corporate America.
In the past three and a half years, front-page coverage of business is down about one-third from what it had been in 2007, the last year of the old ownership regime.
That, to some degree, reflects the Journal’s move toward a more general interest publication.
And some categories of news, such as coverage of government, foreign news involving the U.S. and lifestyle subjects, have increased noticeably in recent years.
Yet attention to other subject areas has fallen.
Front-page coverage of health and medicine has been de-emphasized the past few years.
Education issues have virtually disappeared from the front pages as has—ironically enough, given the current state of affairs—attention to the media industry.

So expect changes and NG, as in less quality, less depth to appeal to Murdoch's usual target of a dumbed-down audience, like Fox viewers.

"Up next on Nat Geo....Climate Change or Junk Science?"
Rupert Murdoch's Purchase of the National Geographic and the Corporate Dismemberment of the News Industry
Ever since Rupert Murdoch's 21st Century Fox corporation bought the magazine in September, there were rumors the new owner would maximize profits by terminating employees. Those predictions came through when
Management fired 180 people, and
told dozens of others they were being offered "voluntary buy-outs."
The corporation also announced it was
eliminating health coverage for future retirees and
was freezing all pensions.
Management told the public there would be no loss of quality, but it's hard to believe those claims when the same management sliced photo editors, designers, writers, and several fact-checkers from the payroll.

How does Murdoch expect to make money from a butchered NatGeo?
