" OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — An Oklahoma death row inmate is scheduled to be executed Wednesday for his role in a 1997 killing despite his claim of innocence and a last-minute scramble by his attorneys to have a hearing on new evidence they say proves a co-defendant acted alone.

Unless the U.S. Supreme Court intervenes, Richard Glossip is set to receive a lethal injection at 3 p.m. CDT at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary in McAlester. He was convicted of ordering the beating death of an Oklahoma City motel owner. But Glossip claims he was framed by the actual killer, Justin Sneed, who is serving a life sentence and was the state's key witness against Glossip in two separate trials.

Just hours before Glossip was originally to be put to death on Sept. 16, the state's highest criminal court granted a two-week reprieve to review his claims of new evidence in the case, including another inmate's assertion that he overheard Sneed admit to framing Glossip.

But in a 3-2 decision earlier this week, the same court denied Glossip's request for an evidentiary hearing and emergency stay of execution, paving the way for his execution to proceed. The Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals' majority wrote that the new evidence simply expands on theories raised in his original appeals."

    no

"Death row prisoner Richard Glossip is slated to be executed this afternoon.

An Oklahoma court recently rejected a request for a new hearing in the case.

In 1997, Glossip was working as a manager at the Best Budget Inn in Oklahoma City when his boss, Barry Van Treese, was murdered.

A maintenance worker, Justin Sneed, admitted he beat Van Treese to death with a baseball bat, but claimed Glossip offered him money and job opportunities for the killing.

The case rested almost solely on Sneed’s claims.

No physical evidence ever tied Glossip to the crime.

In recent months, two men who served time in jail with Sneed have come forward saying Sneed framed Glossip to avoid the death penalty himself.

On Monday, the court ruled this evidence "merely builds upon evidence previously presented to the court," and rejected a stay of execution.

Are you guys sure that's the whole story? "Someone said" isn't the way our legal system works. Needs hard evidence.

Jeez it's only because they think they might be using the wrong juice

Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin halted the execution of Richard Glossip at the last minute on Wednesday after prison officials tried to go forward with the wrong drugs, officials said. The stunning announcement came about an hour after the U.S. Supreme Court refused to stop the execution of Glossip, whose case drew a call for mercy from Pope Francis earlier in the day. The execution was rescheduled for Nov. 6."Last minute questions were raised today about Oklahoma's execution protocol and the chemicals used for lethal injection," Fallin said in a statement.

" His conviction hinged largely on the testimony of the man who actually carried out the bludgeoning of Van Treese. That man, Justin Sneed, is serving a life sentence. The defense says it has witnesses who back up their claim that Sneed acted alone, and that the state has tried to intimidate those witnesses by hitting them with probation violations."

If that's the case then people need to go to jail with harsh penalties. Theyre making a mockery of our entire legal system and rule of law. Honestly didn't know you could be convicted on a single eyewitness account with no evidence
