Save money but use it for vacation not for future medical expenses. You won't be able to enjoy life past retirement age as much as you could in you 20s, 30s, 40s b/c your body won't cooperate or you could be dead/incapacitated from cancer, heart attack, stroke, car accident...etc.

I don't care whatsoever about passing on my genes so I'm going to spend all my income on Me, Myself & I. If you don't have to look forward to grandkids, what is the point of living a long boring life anyways? Just find a low-stress career that pays a decent middle income wage, scout for a traveling companion who isn't interested in having kids then explore the world while sipping pina colada & laughing at degenerates living a scripted life.

**Disclaimer: I'm an atheist thus I don't believe in afterlife so earth is heaven/ to me but I choose to treat it like heaven.**

Of all the stupid things I've read on this forum this is the stupidest.

Dude, you will spend 20 years retired. Maybe more. No way in you want $$$$$$$ to be a factor. You have fought all your wars, you have saved all the damsels in distress, now ya wanna take it easy....chill. Live the good life nice and mellow, that takes $$$$$$$.

And, once you grow up you'll realize it's not all about me me me I I I, but it's real obvious you don't get that right now being a dumb kid.

as long as I can still get an erection, I don't wanna work. I want to have sex with wife/girlfriend, play golf, hang out in casino all day, travel, etc... And therefore I will enjoy saving for retirement.

You must own your home that is a MUST!!!!!!!! If you are a renter at 65 you are one gigantic failure. You do not want to be living around renters, that is a ed existence. You want to be surrounded by home owners who take pride in their homes.

Unless you are a or some dumb you will want a famliy and grandkids, trust me at 60 you won't be PARTY OVER HERE PARTY OVER THERE , ok? Believe it or not amigo there will come a time it really is more about watching the kids open thier gifts on XMAS than what me me me I I I got.

As a young stud it's all about getting that wet and a buzz and that is fun but it doesn't last forever and you better realize that early on. Only idiots ignore their future.

There will be tires to buy, home improvements to make, you'll need plummers, you'll need your vehicles worked on, you'll need things slick, it takes $$$$$$$$$....ok slugger? That 56 HD TV costs $$$$, that new SUPER DUPER cell phone costs $$$$$$$$. That trip to where ever costs $$$$$$. I own some land, yep it cost $$$$$$$$$.

Start saving all ya can right now, there will come a time you'll..."thank God!"...trust me. Oh yeah.....BUY THAT HOME!!!!!!!!!

Listen, if I live a good 55 years I really don't care if I live 20 more relatively uneventful years where my quality of life will definitely be worse. I also am in a field where I can get a career that's relatively stress free but will allow me to make a modest middle income thus I've no wars to wage. Not to mention I'm a pretty active person thus the retirement lifestyle doesn't suit me. As someone who was in med school, I do understand something about empathy but investing my own time/money on myself has nothing to do w/ that since I've probably volunteered more of my time than most folks will in their lifetime. If anything insisting that YOUR genes be passed onto the next generation is what I call "me, me, me, I, I, I" & don't you dare argue otherwise b/c humans are innately selfish when it comes to passing on their genes.

as long as I can still get an erection, I don't wanna work. I want to have sex with wife/girlfriend, play golf, hang out in casino all day, travel, etc... And therefore I will enjoy saving for retirement.
Except there is no guarantee you will make it retirement age nor have a functioning body. I for one don't care much for retirement related activities since I'm more of an active/outdoor-ish person which is why I want to take full advantage of my fully functioning body. Playing golf w/ a bad back, sitting in front of a slot machine, fishing & needing Viagra for an erection aren't exactly my cup of tea.

Because people want to retire and enjoy the final chapter of their life at their own pace.
Did I not make it clear that there is no guarantee that you might be bed ridden by the time you retire? Folks acting like everything is going to remain the same as it is now by the time they are 65. As someone who is in the medical field I'll advice you to think twice if you think everything is going to be gravy.

I'm probably not going to make it to 65....I'm going to be one of those folks who dies relatively young rock climbing or hang gliding.

FYI: I'm actually pretty disciplined & financially responsible nor do I care about being the life of the party since I'm an introvert & don't drink. All I care about is enjoying nature but not on some "Into the Wild" shyt since mother nature isn't too kind.

There is a pleasure in the pathless woods,
There is a rapture on the lonely shore,
There is society, where none intrudes,
By the deep sea, and music in its roar:
I love not man the less, but Nature more

Many, many people are working well into their 70's these days. Pensions are a thing of the past. Unless you have a nice 401k you'll be working later in life. Nothing wrong with that. Staying active with work and not shuffleboard is not a bad thing. Nothing wrong with enjoying life while young either. Better to walk along the great wall of China than limp.

Are you a home owner? If not you need to be. It all starts there. Do you plan on having a family?

Most people are scared to take a leap of faith & settle for the same ole scripted lifestyle while some chase a carrot on a stick but I've discovered that I'm not like most folks. At the end of the day we are all bound to be dead so I might as well die taking a leap of faith for the better rather than living a scripted life & dying of old age. I would actually be hesitant to take a leap of faith if humans were immortal & knew I had to deal w/ the consequence for eternity. The reality is we humans have about a 30 year window (25-55) to enjoy life to the fullest when we have both fully functional body & money to fund our endeavors but most of those years are spent slaving in the workforce. As someone who enjoys an active lifestyle, waiting till retirement age would be like athletes turning pro in their 40s.

Old head, I've thought about this for a while & no I don't plan of having a family which is one of the major factors in my decision to not save for retirement. I really have no good reason to have kids besides the innate natural drive I've as a man to impregnate women that I find to be attractive so I could pass on my genes. I've good enough self-control to resist that urge but I wouldn't mind being in a relationship with a woman who shares the same perspective on life including my views when it comes to kids. Maybe adoptions or step kids could be an option but they better be financially independent by the time they are in college which is possible as long as they get a scholarship & major in the STEM fields. One thing I value beyond anything in life is my independence & I'm not willing to relinquish it by bringing people into my life.

An old head talking to a dumb ass....hmmm?

So you actually believe what you feel right now will stay that way, right? That right there tells me you're an idiot. You will be changing your way of thinking as time goes on, we all do. You don't know that?

If you think a life with no family, no $$$$$$ for retirement is the way to go you don't understand what the good life is, it is not being a lonely old fart, which is where you appear to be heading, but.....you will snap out of this stupidity with maturity. Right now you are still in that thumb sucking stage, where like an infant all you care about is your bottle, you need a change of diaper, no thought of anyone else at all, you will out grow that, honest.

Would you believe there will coome a time you will think...."I can't believe I ever said saving for retirement is stupid, what in the was I thinking"....I guarantee it!!!!!!!!!!

I will live out the rest of my days never having to worry about $$$$$$$$$. Do you have any idea how sad it would be to an old fart still living from pay day to pay day, wishing you could stop working but simply can't survive without a job....OUCH~~~~~~~

Dude, any pussy you are chasing at 55/older has kids by somebody, ok? Old s hangng in bars trying to pick up old women with saggy s, YUCK~~~~~~~

Listen, I was pretty mature for a teenager (I was a young kid w/ an old soul) as I had been living away from my family since I was 14. I was living with relatives starting in high school & didn't get financial support from my family. I put myself through college thanks to a full ride scholarship & got a job right out of school so you could basically say I've been financially independent since I was 14. So don't think I'm the same spoiled/immature person you might have been in your 20s just like the majority of folks in their 20s. I didn't waste my 20s chasing women, bar hopping & partying instead I was exploring different career options & even matriculated at a med school before I recently decided to withdraw b/c it wasn't a good fit. I know what I want & I'm not afraid to take a leap of faith b/c I won't be content w/ the same ole scripted lifestyle.

The only reason I'll change my mind is if I give up & settle just like women who marry men for the sake of starting a family b/c they don't know what else to do with their life. All I need is an independent woman (around my age) who shares my views (there are plenty of women who don't want kids) & also has a passport (not just a vagina).

Ok then send me some, alright? Remember you don't worry about it, right?

Do you want a nice home big HD tv in your 4 bedrooms? Ya want every toy you have ever wanted? You want to drive a nice car and a nicer truck? Ya want to dress nice and wear a watch? How about buying nice things for others? That all thats $$$$$$$$. Do you really want bill collectors calling you, how about being hungry and no $$$$, youreally want that?

I grew up poor, I went to HS poor, it sucks not being able to ever have anything. Anyone who says $$$$$$$$ has never been poor. I've ate peanut butter and crackers for dinner before, with only water to drink, that sucks! It's all about $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ and oly an idiot wouldn't get that.

So you have no God, you don't own a home, you don't have a woman or plan on having any children. And saving for retirement, enjoy life now (as if you don't actually enjoy it more later).

You are living in a neartherworld of your own making, enjoy.

There will come a time (if you stick to that plan) where you will be all alone, nobody to care about, nobody to worry about, just you. You will hear the walls breathing, the silence will be loud, you will then wonder about just how ing stupid you were and....why?

First off I don't care for material possessions & luxury. All I need is a laptop/broadband connection, a smart phone, one bedroom apt then throw in a pre-owned Tesla/road bike, I'm set as far as material possessions. I don't care about clubbing so instead of wasting money at the club for bottle service or buying jewelry trying to be flashy I'll save the money & use it for vacation. All I care about is having a low stress but well paying/mentally stimulating career that will allow me to chill on the weekends & travel every 6 months all of which will be a reality in about 2-3 years time.

Living a middle class lifestyle to the fullest & dying relatively young (~55) > slaving until retirement age & dying of old age

Bruh, I'm an introvert who doesn't mind solitude. I'm actually living the life you described except for the "wondering about just how stupid I was" part & it doesn't bother me one bit b/c again I care more about nature than people. I've plenty of things to keep me busy besides socializing so I don't pay attention to the "walls breathing, the silence being loud". If you are an extrovert then you might think I'm a sociopath but I'm "Mr. Nice Guy" who just happens to be an introvert, I don't hate people.

Spending is a different word than investment imho. There're a lot of ways in which you can make wise use of your money and make them generate extra income for you after your retirement. I agree that the mean pension money ain't sufficient to sustain a decent life, that's just simple fact, but there are better solutions to this issue than blowing all your money when you're young only to live on welfare as a do later in your life. Maybe you're too young to think carefully about your life, or you're just born a hedonist, I don't know. If you really wanna invest in yourself, education is not a bad option because it gives you knowledge and also additional skills which would better your life tremendously. Or maybe you can try things like art, music or others that can help improve the spiritual aspect of your life... all of which are better options than spending your money on harmful items like alcohol, pussies and drugs imho.

And I am not one of those convention guardians. I also resent the old style of traditional life - getting married and living a lukewarm life like the old generation etc... but it doesn't mean you have to try crazy s just to BE different tbh. Just live the life that you think is best for you, both in the short term and in the long term. Celibacy is my choice, I don't smoke and I gave up alcohol completely about 4yrs ago. My life may be void of joy in your eyes, but it is a choice of thorough meditation and scientific assessment, rather than one of intuition or impulse driven by the pure desire for joy or fun, tbh.

You can maintain good health well into your 70s at least, or maybe 80s and 90s as well if you take care of your body. Eat and sleep healthy, and perhaps combined with celibacy you'll have a good chance to live past the 100th mark tbh. And I don't think life will necessarily be boring just because one is old. A man is old as he thinks, I mean if you have a more optimistic mindset the quality of your life will always be good despite your age imho.

Saving for retirement, having a family, and enjoying life aren't mutually exclusive.

If you can't save for retirement AND enjoy life, maybe you aren't making enough money?

But, if you want to let the IRS rape your paycheck, i.e. being single, not having kids, not having a 401k, then by all means, enjoy your life.

I want to travel, go to ball games, and bang hot bishes when I'm retired. You need cash to do that.
