I think Tony's scoring going down is just about a gurantee. Nick will take more of his minutes than Beno, that's for sure. And Nick will be subbed in quicker than Beno would have been if Parker is not finding the net.

Duncan needs to get touches to initiate our half court offense, at least half the time. It gives us offensive stability and high percentage shots, keeps defenses from just crowding driving lanes, and allows us to play ball control to offset luck of the fast break that can sometimes strike offensively.

Manu's scoring will suffer more than Tony's, IMO. This is because Finely will be taking more shots than Bowen would have been. Nick will be shooting more than Bones or Beno would have been, and those shots were Manu's with the second unit (often), when Duncan would get a break and Manu would be the main scorer.

I think something like this is realistic:

    Duncan 21
    Tony 14
    Nick 10
    Manu 14
    Finley 10
    Bruce 6
    Nazr 8
    Horry 8
    Barry 6
    oberto/rasho 4
    scoring about 99ppg...

I would be surprised if NVE and Finley averaged 10 ppg.

What about Beno, Rash, Oberto?? whatever scrub guard we can scrape up to replace Devin?? They shouldn't score much, but Oberto may get semi-serious playing time. But I would be happy with 99 ppg, especially if we hold other teams to 84 ppg

PS oops, saw where you brought in oberto/rash, nevermind then

"Finely will be taking more shots than Bowen"

Fin ain't doin until he plays defense.

He got 16 ppg in 37 MPG last season.
He took a FG every 2.6 minutes, won't get that many shots for Spurs.

I agree Manu SHOULD be scoring more because he is good at getting to the line, but I would prefer he saves getting hammered so much for important games and the playoffs. I'm afraid he can't turn his aggressive nature off and on like a faucet, though, so he will prob. spend time either hurt or taking big hunks of games off.

Having Fin and Nick score some will let us save Manu for the playoffs, help them intigrate while playing them relatively short bench minutes.

Sure, Fin and Van Excel will need to play d to be on the court, but their offense and team defense will help shore up the difference. Plus do you really see them playing much worse d than bones and beno? I don't.

Fin will get fewer touches than on Dallas just because of minutes. However the ratio of shots per minute doesn't nec. follow because he was playing with the starters, and was a 4th option there. He will be coming off the bench so he will get the most touches of those players. He will likely be the main offensive weapon, depending on matchups, with Van being a close 2nd offensive option off the bench.

I am not saying he will be consistent in his production, but I think he will have a good number of big nights. He will also have nights where manu and bowen play alot of minutes and so he doesn't get any court time.

I hope we use Fin and Van to save Manu some during the regular season. Having less of a scoring role than they did for their last teams, but enough to reduce the pressure on Manu to score (and take a pounding going to the basket) during the year.

I highly doubt Finley and NVE score 10ppg. Popovich would be crazy to cut Manu's minutes back (He already plays very low minutes for the calibur of player he is). I see Finley taking most of Barry's minutes and Devin's. NVE will play a decent amount (15 or so MPG), but it won't be enough to put up anymore than 6-7ppg given the fact that he'll have quite a few guys getting touches on the floor with him.

I thnk Manu's real value and the measure of his growth will be that his level of play has grown and that his comfort level of what he can and can't do has also increased. Basically, what I'm saying is that this year we are going to see a Manu who will play smarter and more aggressive when the occasions calls for it. The main thing that came out of the playoffs is that Manu now knows that he can control the ball whenever the team gets stagnant or has problems scoring, something that I think was not really allowed even as late as midseason of this past season. I think it grew more out of the fact that TD went down for so many games that Pop put more trust in Manu and Tony to pull games out, and in the playoffs that confidence was rewarded by Manu in that he took that other level that players talk about when they get in the playoffs.
So maybe he might score a couple more pts a game, but his true worth will be in big games, tight games, and in the playoffs where he will just go off and not worry about anything but helping the team win.

I agree manu will be our go-to guy in the playoffs, typically, late in games. He is too deadly shooting, slashing and getting to the line when he needs to.

I could see Horry and Van Excel getting fewer points that I thought, and either rasho or oberto getting a few more points. I just doubt we have manu carry more of the scoring load than he has to during the regular season.

PARKER/BENO/RASHO or any euro player on our team competing in the euro champs will get their minutes shorten, just like last season with gino n duncan. I can see duncan improvin his ppg, expecting finley to avg what brown was avg, and NVE around benos scoring avg.

We only want NVE n Finley to play and contribute like horry, not like the good ol days how they can just fire any shot like they use too. This is spurs bball
